I recommend staying at the Royal Amsterdam Hotel downtown and eating at Monarch's which is located in the hotel.  It's 6 blocks from the stadium and gives a special rate for Central events.
Does anyone know if Pella has a movie theater. I couldn't locate one. May need something to do Friday night ;)
If you are staying at Monarch's it's about 40 yards away.

Is there a Hooters in Pella?
What part of "Pella" do you not get? :D
So I'm looking at info on Pella on line and wondering what impact the religious make-up of the community has on the town.  (Bear in mind that I live in a city with 3 denominational universities, which bears an enormous impact on the perception of the community)
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

BFD, at the end of the day you're still in Minnesota, which only exists to give people in North Dakota something to aspire to.

Great shot!  Coming from an Iowegian, though?  Gimme a break  :o

I don't even have a dog in this fight, (is that still PC?) but I'm willing to be in the front lines in the battle of wits with the barbarians from the north.

My one experience with Pella was when we played there in 2000.  Didn't get to enjoy the nightlife  :D

here's a link to an article about Coach Fred's Monday press conference if you guys are interested. http://www.kdhnews.com/news/story.aspx?s=37178
Thanks for sharing, wish I could return the favor, but Central's usually top notch SID hasn't gotten anything out yet.

The impact is there and it is strong, but not to the extent that most outside Pella believe it is.  We are coming into the 21st century.  Once the scandal of Walmart being open on Sunday died down times have been changing.   ;D

No problem.  I would share other articles, but the newspaper that covers UMHB the best recently started abbreviating articles on the web and saying to buy a paper if you want the whole thing.  Of course those alumni who live outside of the circulation area are out of luck because they don't offer an online subscription.  The Killeen Daily Herald, http://www.kdhnews.com, usually has very good coverage during the playoffs so if you want good info on the Cru, usually including articles about key players and program history, check the sports section there.

Yes, but we let Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists in too.   ;)  As to Central, only about 5-7% of the student population comes from the Reformed Church in America, which is Central's religious affiliation.  Of course, the RCA is a very small denomination as well.  Most of the students are Catholic.

I was in Pella twice when my daughter played volleyball there.  The first time it took me two days to find a bar.  I'm not the swiftist guy in the world but I can usually find a bar quicker than that.  ;D
See, this guy gets Pella.   ;)  Sports Page, Applebee's, Monarch's all have bars.  Monarch's is more for you old geezers.   ;D

We're they there in 2000-2002?

Switching gears a bit, big CONGRATULATIONS to the unranked Pella High Little Dutch for making it to Saturday's state championship game!  They have had to go through ranked teams in much the same way as the West bracket to get there.  So after Central's game will head home to catch Pella's first ever appearance in the state championship game.  Nice that it is timed so that Central's game will be over before Pella High's starts.  Could affect the size of Central's crowd on Saturday as some of the locals might prefer the comfort of the dome.

Time to see if the unranked can knock off the #1 Harlan team that seems to have a MUC type hold on the state championship.

There are baptists that go there too.  I know one that attended.  2004-2007 ;D ;D ;D

Central was actually founded by the Baptists and there is a Baptist church right across from campus.  We will be glad to welcome you to Pella.  We may not give you the Dutch treat you come in search of, but we welcome you.

I'm not much for looking up statistics but when I went to school there, a long time ago, it seemed like there were more churches and fewer bars, per capita, than any town I've seen before or since.  And we're not talking little store front churches.  We're talking steeples, and the whole enchilada as Texans would say.  My memory isn't great but it seems like the bars closed at midnight Saturday and didn't open again until Monday.

On the subject of bars, and adding to the list above, when I was out there for homecoming, they were remodeling the joint that used to be Woody's.  Anyone been there lately?  It seemed to attract the "Good Ole Boy" crowd, in case any Texans get home sick.  There is also a convivial little place attached to Bos Landen.  Coming from out of town, you might have a hard time finding it.  I get lost every time I try.
