On a baseball side note....

Pat Murphy, 15 year Arizona State head coach, resigned yesterday with out any reason. Will not talk to the press or release any statement.
I had the previlege to meet Pat Murphy earlier this year. I did some work for him and know he's a good man. He just likes things done a certain way, his way (in a good sense).

Don't get me started on the Dutch and political correctness.  They have had their share of identity crises.  For a while they were The Flying Dutchmen and used a sailing ship as a logo.  Then someone decided that the ledgendary Flying Dutchman had been a slave ship.  So it was hurtful to use that imagry.  Then they were just the plain old Dutchmen, but that was sexist.  So now, The Dutch.  And BTW, Go Dutch!
I actually like "The Cru" better than the Crusaders.  I'm not generally into PC language, but there are some images I think better left alone, and killing in the name of religious zealotry is one of them.  Sorry to hear about Central's mascot's journey but at least you settled on the Dutch.  McMurry went from being the Indians to being McMurry sports teams.

The shortening of the name to "The Dutch" evokes the something like "The Irish".  Of course that's a shortening from The Fighting Irish...probably related to the age-old Irish affinity for getting pissed and having a houlie.  As to the Dutch I associate that with Gouda, Clogs, Windmills, Tulips and building cities below sea level...although recently (though not in Pella) they seem known for liberal policies toward drugs, prostitution, homosexuality, euthanasia and abortion.   ;D

The Cru...it's rather meaningless and intentionally evasive; and only slightly better than the University of Mary Hardin Baylor Bubble-headed Ninnymuggins.   ::)

I'm sure this is said in jest, not in reality.  I'll take it to be worried babble and not truthful slights toward a very good institution both academically and athletically.

Well, I know most of you are saying that this will be a well matched game, and from what I have read, it seems to read as though most of you have respect for the Cru, but it seems as though a lot of you feel as though we will be steam rolled.

We've been through a lot as a team and things are beginning to come together.  Rest assured, the Cru will bring the helmet no matter the size of the opponent.  ;)

The IIAC will have to win without me today.  We're out the door to bring Monmouth vocal support from the league.

I believe there's a lot of respect going towards the CRU. I don't quite remember reading anything about a steam roll? The scoring predictions have all been close in score.
I myself was justing having a little fun with the little crusader picture. How it turned into, "I'll hope you both lose" and other comments, I don't really know?
I think Toby Taff caught the fun!
I'm sure were going to have a great game to watch. ;D

Is the Hardin in UMHB related to the Hardin in Hardin-Simmons?

And...Is the Baylor the related to the Baylor University Baylor?

Given the world of hurt UMHB has brought to every team but Mississippi College...the Dutch have a big test today.

On the flip side, if it's close...does UMHB have that tight game experience?  Central seems to thrive in close games and get those breaks that seem to tip the scale.

I'm rooting for the IIAC and Central.  But over the past few years UHMB has been one notch below MUC and UW-W, even throwing out last year, Central has been one rung lower.

This will be a big time win if the Dutch can come out on top.  If UMHB weren't upset by MC, I figure they would be #3 ranked right now.

Tough opening round game...

Yes, both teams were struggling through during the depression, I believe, and this donor gave money to both schools.

If I ever win a million bucks, I'm going to donate money to Centrals video cast department. It's a great day and the Dutch win the toss. Go get em boys.

umhb2001 is correct.  John Hardin was a business man who gave money to a lot of Texas schools in the depression.  HSU and UMHB both honored the family by changing the school names.  ACU also received money and has a Hardin building on campus.  The Baylor names comes from REB Baylor, one of the founders of the school.  Baylor University and UMHB were chartered under the same charter as separate male and female colleges of Baylor University.  Baylor became coed when the men's college moved to Waco and joined with Waco College.  The female college moved to Belton in 1866 as Baylor Female College and finally became fully coeducational in the early 1970's
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I was wrong on the score with Wartburg (being low scoring). Looking incorrect again.
I think we may be looking at another shoot out.
