Interesting article about Iowa Wesleyan College thinking about switching from NAIA to D3.  After reading the article, it sounds like the President is more for it than any of the coaches.  Ex Football Coach makes a great point about the lack of facilities and how difficult it would be to recruit to IWC if it was a D3 school.  Also sounds as if they decide to go D3, they may be looking at a league in Missouri.

IWC struggles where they are at now...football wise, it would be very difficult for them to be competitive in the IIAC.

Interesting quote from that article..."Next year we play Coe (College, a Division III school in the IIAC) in football. If I remember correctly they called our football coach. Other times I've tried to contact schools and it's like, 'we can't work it out.'"

I would hope if Coe contacted IWC for football they were trying to schedule them for their pre-season scrimage.  I haven't heard anything on Coe's schedule for next year, but I think scheduling IWC for regular season would be a mistake as they are not very good and would hurt our strength of schedule.

I don't know what all the hoopla was about over Wartburg taking their roster down. The team picture is still up. All you have to do is count! ;D

Their roster is up there now. I think they removed all the seniors though.

I like how they portray the athletic scholarships in the NAIA. I'm sure the reason they only use 20 or 22 of their 24 scholarships is that they give everyone a 25% scholarship. I would be interested to see the bottom line price for a football player at IWC comapred to an IIAC player. I would suspect that it would not be very different. At least you can say you're on an athletic scholarship while you are riding to your next game in the back of a van.

The college president was trying to get your point across in that article.  Unfortunately, the former players in that article couldn't seem to see that and kept bringing up "scholarship" money.  Some people just get blinded to seeing they had a football scholarship when often you can play at a D3 school for less money out of pocket.  It gets funny after awhile to keep seeing people bring that up.

I agree 100%. I know some who are going to NAIA schools on an "athletic scholarship" that probably didn't cover their book bill. And how would you feel if someone actually got a full or close to full scholarship and you only got $1000? That probably works well in the locker room too.

I really hope that these games come together at least to a point where they provide a satisfactory experience for these guys...not like Wildcat11's ordeal.

Jr. accepted the invite to the Tazon de Estrellas game because it represented a goal he set for himself when he was a freshman which was to play in the Aztec Bowl his Senior year.  He worked out missing the last week of class with his professor...a Spanish Class, conveniently enough, by agreeing to write a report of his experiences in Mexico City and playing American Football in a foreign country.  The whole itinerary is well done with a tour of Mexico City and the Teotihuacan Pyramids.  Plus the coaches associated with the event represent a great cross-section of D3 Football.  The whole experience sounds like a great opportunity.

Indeed, it does sound like a wonderful opportunity ... even to dove-tailing the trip with his Spanish class.

Que bueno!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Coe's non-conference games next year are Olivet Nazarene and Iowa Wesleyan.

Hmmm - two non-d3 games right after getting into the post-season via Pool C?!

Sounds like someone needs a remedial course in scheduling. ;)

I'm very dissappointed with this...both of those schools were 2-6 this year...not sure what the heck we're thinking scheduling 2 NAIA schools!

From a football perspective, staying in the IIAC may well be a Sisyphean Task for Cornell.  (Look it up 'hack fan)

There is a difference between being persistent and being too dumb to quit.

From Cornell's perspective, a league with the likes of Grinnell, Knox, Ripon, etc. would seem more equitable to their present level of commitment.

Let's say this happens...and the new league eventually gets a AQ berth...an 8-2 or 7-3 league winning Cornell team could get into the playoffs when an 8-2 or 9-1 Wartburg or Coe or Central would not.  And then most likely get blown out in the 1st round like the MWC usually does.

What is the timing/process for a new league to get an AQ bid?

I am on the fence.  I think there is more commitment to athletics than most outside folks realize.  I think they can have satisfactory levels of IIAC success, even in football. (Plenty is going on right now in other sports).  This new football coach hire is an opportunity to vet that.  I like the IIAC and it's upper tier status in D3.  I think getting to a point to win the IIAC in football is difficult to imagine even for an eternal optimist like me...but I have seen the desire within the people in that Athletic Department and that gives me hope.

Sad, pitiful, and awful.  Do the Kohacks want to be taken seriously as a conference power?   ???

There's a two-year waiting period.

Is it really that hard to fill out a schedule that Coe is playing Olivet Nazarine and Iowa Wesleyan?

Pat, do you have the Dubuque schedule for next season?  And if so, can you share it on here please ;D
