After beating UWSP on the same field that they had earlier beat Whitewater on, it would have been a bad loss if they hadn't won.
This argument doesn't hold an ounce of water to me.  Just because Wartburg lost to BV at home last fall, do you think that made it any easier for Central to win in Waverly?  Doubtful.

At any rate, just because it isn't "noteworthy" to you, doesn't make it any less important to others.
I'm well aware of this, but I'd argue that, from a conference standpoint, having an IIAC reach the national semifinals for the second year in a row is a much bigger deal than some bowl game from a half century ago that isn't even played anymore.  But that's just me.

Allright, how about a few questions to ponder.

What was your best/favorite win in the IIAC?

What was your worst loss in the IIAC?

And explain...don't just put a school down and leave it at that.

Is this a fans perspective of this year or all time or games guys actually played in?

any of the above

OK guys........so much for Christmas and New Year greetings.  Let's get back to football.

What was the best/favorite win and worst loss with IIAC schools?  Doolittle poses a great historical question.

The question seemed to be a little more inclusive than where ever you are trying to go.[quote

I'm willing to throw in $100 to help him pay the fine.  Who's with me?

Knowing the NFL, now that he mentioned in the article he has been wearing eye black that says "D III" since 2007 they will probably retro active fine him back all those games ::)

No matter how you look at it, it's great to be Dutch. :)

Best win...
When one played in the middle of the previous century thoughts go to games without facemasks and Riddell helmets that scared ones nose.

Best win was Luther vs Western Illinois in 1955.  There were two divisions in college football..University (Big 10 etc) and "small college" (WI was considered small college).  Western Ill. was the dominant team in the midwest and had a team of transfers from U of Illinois. Luther was invited to play in the "Corn Bowl" at WI.  The IIAC rep had 2 coaches, Western had 8.  Luther had 50 players, Western 100.

First half Luther scored 3 TD and lead 21-0.  Western stormed back in the second half with 2 TD and a field goal.  So 21-17.

The story our QB later tells is that Western Ill was cursing and swearing on every play and the refs called repeated penalties for "unsportsman-like conduct" that stalled Westerns final drive.  He had reminded the refs that Luther had a bunch of pre-seminary students playing!!

Luther 21, Western Ill. 17  Western Illinois fired their President and coaching staff !

Not sure which is more noteworthy: that oldNorese actually remembers this game, or that Luther hasn't had anything that would qualify as a "best win" since the Eisenhower administration!

sportsknight,
After considerable reflection, I cannot let your initial comment just pass by.  So I publically say the following:
What was simply intended as a human interest story, you deemed it necessary responded with a slam. With years as a counseling psychologist I must admit I do understand the mentality of someone sees it necessary to do that.  Fortunately, for you, I will not continue this discussion about envy.

I do wish you well.

Not Iowa Conference football related.  But, I thought I would share this link...

A Dubuque area farmer wrote a "birthday card" in the field with his manure spreader to his wife.

I need to side with my Luther contemporaries in this oldNorse/sportsknight spat.  I look back to the powerhouse basketball teams at Wartburg from the late 60's to the early 80's as some of the best the IIAC has ever had to offer.  Someone from BV could come on here and say I'm living in the past and we should look to what Coach VH was doing in Storm Lake earlier this decade.  That might be true, but that is part of the fun regarding athletics.  Big games and great teams live forever.  In my opinion the Coach Levik Wartburg basketball teams of 30-40 years ago could breeze through today's IIAC like Sherman through Georgia.  We'll never know.

I think sportsknight needs to understand history is a beautiful thing and not all the important events of the world or the IIAC for that matter have happened in the past 12 months.

I'm going to side with Sportskight here. I believe his original comment was intended as a tounge-in-cheek ribbing of the supporter of a rival school. I don't belive any malice was intended and all was meant in good fun. The responses to his post were a little heavy handed. Having been in similar situations for expressing my opinions, I can sympathise with his position.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Well, I'm not sitting on your couch, so you can just cut the Freud crap right now.  I did not respond with a "slam" against you.  I responded with a joke that you and your cohort Thunderbolt decided to take personally (at least footballdaddy had the insight to know the difference).  I don't knkow what goes into the psychology of people who go looking for perceived slights...I'll leave that up to you.  Fact of the matter is, that would have been a great chance for another Luther fan to jump in with a "Yeah, that stuff back in oldNorse's day was great, but when I was in school, the win that has stuck with me the most was..." type of post.  But instead panties got bunched and insults were hurled, and I'm not the kind of guy that won't hurl back.  I don't go out of my way to make things personal around here, whether its against players, coaches, or other posters.  That said, if someone fires a shot across my bow, you can bet your sweet ass I'm going to return fire.

After all, its the Internet boys.  Not everything is a life and death situation around here.  Its been said on here a lot, but not much lately, that what you read on this board should probably be taken with a hefty grain of salt.  If you can't do that, I suggest you grow some thicker skin.  Either way, unless you guys want to get back to talking football, you can have a nice big glass of shut the hell up.

From Footballcoachscoop.com-
"Grand Valley State:
Our sources tell us that Brian Rock (Purdue Wide Receivers), Matt Mitchell (Grand Valley State Defensive Coordinator) and Lance Leipold (Wisconsin-
Whitewater Head Coach) have interviewed for the Head Coach vacancy.  On December 26, FootballCoachScoop was the FIRST TO REPORT that Matt
Mitchell, Grand Valley State Defensive Coordinator, will be replacing Chuck Martin as Head Coach."

Mitchell was the DC at Wartburg when I was there and is married to the AD's daughter at GVSU.
If Leipold gets the job does that mean UD will be looking for a new coach?
