How about Fred Jackson today?  212 yards, 1,000 for the season.  Not bad for a back-up running back from a Division III School huh?

Not bad for perseverance either.  Mr. Jackson stuck it out through arena ball and europe and then used patience once he was with the Bills and is now reaping the rewards.  Good for him.  I love seeing these kinds of stories.

How did he wind up at Coe in the first place???
I think there was some kind of Coe connection at his high school in Texas. I don't remember correctly but I think one of his HS coaches was a Coe alum or former coach.

This is correct...I believe there is a actual write-up on this whole story, but his high school coach was a Coe alum I beleive and that is how Freddy learned of Coe, plus I beleive he wanted to play with his brother in college as well.  Then after having a wonderful college career, his high school coach also had connections with Marv Levy who helped him get into the NFL.  If I remember right, he was a backup RB in high school as well.

I also got NFL Madden 2010 over christmas and have been playing with Freddy quite a bit.  He is actually rated 82 in the game while Lynch is rated 84 or something like that, which is pretty cool.

Found a good article that explains everything:

I think it was also because he(Freddy) wanted to run track.

I wonder if any of the older members on this board can shed any light on Iowa Wesleyan.  I just read Iowa Wesleyan named their new head football coach and he is their 45th HC in the 120 year history of football at Iowa Wesleyan.  Either that is a typo, or they average a new coach about every 2 1/2 years.  Can that be right???  Have they always been a bad place to be?

The WIAC board has a link that D2 Grand Valley is staying in-house with their coaching hire of DC Matt Mitchell.  Mitchell played college ball at Cornell and coached at Wartburg.

The article mentioned he wants to keep the majority of the staff in place.  Former Wartburg coach Koehler is on staff there.

This should also put to rest any thoughts of Coach Z leaving UD for UWW...even if that was far fetched thinking.

I wonder if having your father-in-law as the Athletic Director is a good thing or a bad thing

One thing is for certain.  He better keep "the Mrs." happy ;D ;D ;D

We have seen sons playing for their dad in the IIAC.  Have we ever had a case where a family member was the boss of another in our conference?

And while the Central president was the kicking coach for the Dutch what do you think would have happened if the HC ever would have complained about the kicking game???

Thankfully, the kicking game was never a problem.  ;D

Congrats NewKnightDad, well played.

Also congrats to Mrs, Doolittle on kicking the double D's rump. I look forward to your analysis of the 2010 season in the pick-ems.

Of the top of my head
Rick Willis was AD with younger brother Jim being tennis coach @ Wart.
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

If Wikipedia says it, it has to be true: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Leach_(coach)

Congrats to Coach Staker on being the D3 Coach of the year!  This is a great award not only for Staker, but also for Coe College and the IIAC!
