If you had 500k burning a hole in your pocket and you wanted to give it to your favorite IIAC school.

Would you...

That's easy. I'd buy 4 more years of eligibility without having to go to class.

But with $500K to burn, I could do some pretty good (cough) illegal recruiting for Cornell. Did I say illegal? I meant to say set up a scholarship foundation for student athletes that want to further their academic career while participating in Division 3 athletics (football) in the beautiful setting of Mount Vernon, IA.

Boise St. is well known for their blue field.  Now, Eastern Washington is planning on installing a red field at their football stadium, thanks to a 500k pledge from an alum.  http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Eastern-Washington-literally-seeing-red-over-new?urn=ncaaf,216240

If you had 500k burning a hole in your pocket and you wanted to give it to your favorite IIAC school.

Would you...

A - Pay to put in a field the color of your team?

B - Keep it green?

C - Go from turf back to grass?

D - Put a picture of your smiling face at midfield?

E - Luxury suite with your name on it that you can stay warm in?

F - Build a 2nd home across the street from campus to serve as your headquarters during the season?

G - Use the funds to hire a better coach?

H - Your answer here________________

I would be like CaliRam.  I think I would put it in a fund to give scholarships for recruits.

I would spend it on marketing.  I don't know why I care, but I would like to see more people show up for IIAC football games.

Since I am pretty pleased with the coaching staff and the facilities (training and playing) are pretty decent at Central, I would put the money somewhere else. Instead of cheating and putting it in a scholarship fund, I would elect to add it to the athletic travel budget -- all of these playoff games are fun, but expensive.  ;D

How is funding young peoples education cheating?  I didn't say all the money would have to go to football players, I would fund the football cheerleaders too.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I originally thought of putting a scholarship option in there.  But then thought with this being D3 that wouldn't be a good idea.

Here is a question about scholarships.  Most schools will have different scholarships set up, such as you can donate to a scholarship that gives out 1 scholarship per year to a kid from Black Hawk county or what not.  Can a school just load those up with football players or what are the rules?  If a football player has all the requirements to get that scholarship as another kid that doesn't play football what happends?

My answer is H.

I would first get the orange on the Wartburg track brightened up.  Then I would find a school like Loras or Simpson and give them the balance of the funds to build a soccer field so they could get those damned extra lines off a perfectly good football field.

I continue to hate soccer and rugby markings on a football field.  John Heisman and Knute Rockne wouldn't approve of a gridiron being defaced in that manner.

Nor would Pele approve of a perfectly good soccer pitch being defiled with those lines every five yards! ;D  And what's with those giant Y's at each end of the pitch? ;)

I agree completely.  I've always said that a soccer field is a perfectly good football field ruined.  And nothing ruins a football field faster than soccer lines.

You could not just load up the football player.  You would need to treat the students with the same eligibility relatively the same in DIII.  An athlete and non-athlete with similar financial need and academic ability have to have similar awards.  So while you can pick and choose the names of what each student might get, the free money portion and favorable loan or work options have to be awarded without regard to athletic ability.

Means I am kidding.

It is generally believed that Wartburg has had cannibalism well under control.  It is well known the Royal Army needs to deal with that problem.

Soccer?
An alleged sport where apperanty grown men do things with their heads and feet heretofore only seen in the monkey house at the zoo? A sport devised by Communist countries to be so mind-nimbingly boring in order to make working in a commune bring tears of joy in comparison? A sport that when played on a proper football gridiorn allows the stifled yawns of the crowd be accompaied by the sounds of Amos Alonzo Stagg, Knute Rocke, and Vince Lombardi spinning in their graves at approximately 7000rpm? A game played on what is apparently called a pitch because that is what your lunch does after 5 or 6 hours of scoreless gameplay?

That soccer?

And now it is time for the penguin on top of your television to explode.
