Um, Omaha probably and then probably an hr drive or maybe Souix City?

There is no easy way to get to Storm Lake.  From the west coast...probably Omaha, Des Moines...or even the Twin Cities are probably your best bet.  Then you get a bit of a drive.

Thanks guys, I thought it was Omaha.  Looks like a 2 hour drive or so.

Has anyone heard of any IIAC players being invited to combines?

I would doubt it.  No one from Iowa State was invited to the NFL Combine, so I doubt any IIAC'er would be.  I heard two Kohawks had tried to go to Iowa's Pro Day, but Ferentz wouldn't allow them.  I think they were going to try to get into Iowa State's.

I would think Calvin Thomas Sr. could pull some strings.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Over the past few years Iowa has not let D3 kids into their Pro Day.  I presume their motivation is to highlight their own...I can't argue with this too much, except that I've read that schools like Ohio State and USC will let kids from other small colleges in.

I wonder if Iowa, at some level, does not want their players shown up by a small college kid...

I think you might be on to something.  In the spring of '07 Walner Belleus had to go to the ISU pro day.  And he was a former Hawkeye.

I know last year at the UNI pro day they had some kids from other colleges.  That could be an option for some IIAC kids as well as the ISU pro day.  Too bad Iowa apparently has their panties in a bunch about letting kids from other schools attend their pro day.

This is true, but it looks better for your program to have players in the NFl, so wouldn't you want the scouts concentrating only on your kids when they have hundreds of prospects to evaluate over a couple of months? i can see why they wouldn't want any other kids there other then iowa players. iowa also may have more players "on display" then isu or uni, so they may be worried about scouts not getting all they need from the visit.

That makes sense to me.  Good call.

Is it just me, or looking at the five 2010 schedules that have been released, does it look like the conference portion of the schedule is going to be the same as last year, with home teams reversed (Wartburg @ Central instead of Central @ Wartburg in 2009)?

Yes sir, the only question now is figuring out who the non-con games are for the 4 teams that have not released their schedules.

I am sure that the Iowa folks would say that and it is completely understandable.  Looking out for your own is perfectly valid.  That said, there aren't more prospects at Iowa than say, an Ohio State, so I don't think it gets down to numbers.

It most likely is to give their guys an exclusive opportunity...but even that infers that they are protecting them from being shown up.

The fact is that letting a few local D3-ers doesn't unleash a flood of ballplayers that will take over the Iowa's Pro Day.  Those they could agree to take in would surely be vetted as a qualified prospect.

I wonder how many 2nd and 3rd and possibly 4th teamers from the Hawkeyes participate...is it possible they put a limit on those guys to prevent a 1st teamer from getting overshadowed?

Ultimately...although D3 players are getting better and better...only a fraction of them are really pro prospects.  That's why they are in D3 for the most part.

The Pros are reeeaaaallllly friggin' good.  Even D1 players have difficulty adjusting.

That said, the opportunities for a D3 kid to get a look are better than they ever have been.  When guys like London Fletcher, Pierre Garcon, Andy Studebaker and Jerhume Urban turn up in Pro Rosters...it just inspires scouts to beat those bushes harder.

For all the big money stars, every team needs guys that will take the minimum pay and bust their butts on special teams and balance out the salary cap as 3rd teamers.

I wonder if an uncapped year will hurt opportunities for undrafted FA's...
