Not really football related, but it's fun to pass along anyway....

Congrats to Larry Happel, Central SID since 1979, who was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame this week. He's a talented writer and Central is lucky to have him in the Sports Information Office.

With Holland in the World Cup finals, I assume we will be seeing Central Dutch fans wearing orange and black clothing at football games this season.
Welcome to the cult.

Looking over the UD schedule, I noticed that they open the season at home on Thursday, September 2 with a night game against Rockford.

This means ... among other things ... there are only 56 days until UD kicks off the 2010 season  8-)

Any other IIAC schools opening before September 5?

GO SPARTANS!

Oh crap  :(  We were planning on going to the Rockford game.  We won't be making that game now.  We're still working stiffs.  That upsets me a bit.  Boo UD schedule makers.

That's the one. I could come up with another rhyme, but I'll just leave that alone. I didn't hear about the final game in San Diego. My son goes to Brophy. Their team made it to the quarter finals and then hit the bus. Hopefully you were able to look at them in a respectful manner.

Barkos say Leeza is going to run into some problems this year. There reputation is following them like a stink in an out house. Here in Arizona we're just going to have to wait and see what the rest of their team looks like.  8-)

Here's a pic you'll enjoy...Rev. 3 is applying the burn to the M de N kid that scored first in your final game...

Remind me again: Between Wartburg and Central, which school has the more recent non-winning season?

That's going to turn into a pretty busy football weekend here in the Key City.  Sparty-Rockford on Thursday night, two high school games (Wahlert vs. Senior and Hempstead vs. Iowa City West) in town on Friday night, and Loras' opener against Elmhurst on Saturday.  No NFL games on Sunday is the only downside.

Does sportsknight consider that a good thing there are 4 football games over a 3 day period in Dubuque?

Or...does sportsknight consider 4 games in 3 nights a bad thing because it cuts into his East Dubuque time???

I suppose if we watch channel 9 and the camera work looks shaky, that means sportsknight has been burning the late night oil along with making all the football games Dubuque has to offer that weekend ;)

That Loras - Elmhurst match-up could be a good one.  I'm assuming the Rockford - UD game will be like the ones in the past.  The Sparans win the opener and then will be seriously challenged by Platteville the next week.

Congrats to Michael Zweifel of Dubuque and Kyle McGivney of Luther for being named to the D3football.com All-American 2nd team.

Career cumulative stats:

Cecil Shorts, 189 receptions, 3509 yards, 45 TD, 78.4 yd/gm
Alex Koors, 169 receptions, 2595 yards, 26 TD, 89.93 yd/gm
Michael Zweifel, 287 receptions, 3552 yards, 27 TD, 122 yd/gm

2009 season:

Cecil Shorts, 100 receptions, 1736 yards, 19 TD, 115.7 yds/gm
Alex Koors, 73 receptions, 1266 yards, 13 TD, 126.6 yd/gm
Michael Zweifel, 111 receptions, 1522 yards, 15 TD, 152.2 yd/gm

I wouldn't debate that Zweifel is a better receiver than Shorts but I would debate that he's a better receiver than Koors.  Though I know the overall success of DePauw versus the success of Dubuque comes into play in the decision.  But looking at the individual players I think Zweifel's numbers give him the nod.  JMO
