Just to clarify a point.  I don't see Zweifel's landing on D3football.com's second team as a slight.  But you're right pre-season is just that and postseason is a tad sweeter.  However if Zweifel should end up on the second team at the season's conclusion I still wouldn't view it as a slight.  Considering how many receivers are playing D3 football being among the top half dozen or so is pretty decent.

Is it just me but are "we" always debating on ONE supposedly prolific player Dubuque has on the team? Year in and year out thats the debate, they  so and so who is the best player in the IIAC/D3 whatever. Yet never win the title!? Thats all fine and good, they can have one individual thats great, but until you get 22 you wont be in the talk for the championship.

Sorry to come off like an A$$ but some of the guys on here who have been around a while gotta see where Im coming from! And to our DBQ cohorts, no hard feelings, Z is a good player, Im just tired of useless debate! :)

Point taken.

Yep, I can't even remember how many times something like this happens...

Random Fan - Who should make All-Conference?
Dubuque Fan - Player X from UD
Central/Wartburg Fan - Ha, win a conference championship first and then get back to us.
Dubuque Fan - He still is a good player.
Central/Wartburg Fan - Ok, fine, you have 1 good player...we have 22 good players
Dubuque Fan - why you little #*^@
Central/Wartburg Fan - Eat it, you little #*^@

5 days later someone says  - Hey, why don't we talk about something else?

I guess history does repeat itself...over , and over again ;D

I forgot about how Wartburg kills kittens for scientific experiments...though it would be kind of fun to see a school with affiliation from Satan...along with your usual Lutheran, Methodist, and Presbyterian schools you see at the D3 level ;D

Ok, the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald with another story on D3 athletics.

Shane Davis elected to the Loras College HOF.  He rushed for a school record 1,774 yards in 1997

And, dare I mention it...

UD's Zweifel a nominee for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team -- University of Dubuque All-American wide receiver Michael Zweifel has been doing record-setting work on the field. Now the senior has been nominated for one of college football's most prestigious off-the-field honors.

Zweifel has been named a nominee for the 2010 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team. The team recognizes student-athletes who make significant contributions to their communities.

Zweifel has organized a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dubuque by donating money from football game ticket sales to the foundation, coordinated the Spartans' team participation in a city cleanup event and worked with teammates to beautify a Dubuque park.

Two 11-player Good Works teams will be announced from 112 nominees -- the most in the 19-year history of the award -- in late September.

Past members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team include Super Bowl champion quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer and 2010 NFL first-round draft picks Tim Tebow and Gerald McCoy.

Wartburg Heretics vs. Central Bealzabubs

BV Blasphemers vs. Dubuque Doubters

Loras Lucifers vs Coe Brimstones

Simpson Sinners vs Luther Lotharios

and don't forget the Cornell Batouttahells!

I think you may be on to something!! He certainly couldn't do worse then BP!!  >:(

But then again, if he put together a volunteer team and they ended up stopping the spill and he got nominated for some top environmental award, footballdaddy would whine that there were "other" people that "could" have stopped the spill if they had just been given the opportunity also!!

Perhaps the championship game could be called the Armageddon Bowl.

And every game ends in sudden death.

From the Wartburg Athletics web-site:

Jul. 21, 2010

WAVERLY (IOWA) - Wartburg College senior defensive back Andrew Creary of Knoxville was among 112 from NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA nominated for the 2010 Allstate/American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.

Creary, a team captain this season, has excelled on and off the field for head coach Rick Willis' program. He was the leading tackler last fall, totaling 102 to go with a defensive-unit-best four interceptions. The all-Iowa Conference honoree also accomplishes plenty off the gridiron. He was a fall all-IIAC academic selection (2009) and volunteers for various campus initiatives including the Special Olympics, Feed Our Starving Children, and Bremwood Lutheran Children's Home. Creary also assists community service efforts in his home town area, working at a local senior citizen's home and at his church.
