Word from Mt. Vernon is that the Rams fared very well at Augustana for their scrimmage.

Tough opening draw with North Central for Coach B., though.

I'm rootin' for 'em still.   :)

I have got to think that the severe lack of depth is going to be what will hurt Cornell this year.

Agreed. But I think Coach B. has a QB and some offensive weapons that will look good in that old (pass happy) offense UD used to run.

True, I don't argue that. Its just that injuries will take a toll, as well fatigue. They will definitely be fighting an uphill battle until they get numbers upwards of 80 or 90+. One other thing that gets overlooked is that they 1st stringers don't generally have as quality of guys to run scout team against during practice. I remember we could never take a play off because we were so deep some of the guys on scout team would be starting at other schools, but they of course made the right decision and played for the Dutch. Just were maybe 1 or 2 year starters instead of 3 or 4. Best of luck to them, we need depth in the conference! I cheer for every IIAC team...except when they are playing Central....and sometimes against Wartburg just for fun ;)

Ok, with my picks in, I spent all of 5 minutes researching and inserting power conference numbers in my Casio 8 digit calculator.  I am the only one so far to give the IIAC a winning record at 6-5.  Whats the scoop  IIAC fans???

That Casio 8 digit calculator must be malfunctioning...to come up with a 6-5 record for IIAC teams when there are only 9 teams in the conference :-*

OOPS - I need to get busy with this technology and learn to tpye.   Thanks for the correction DD.  Lets talk 6-3 as opposed to all the 5-4's or 4-5's.  No body else going any further out on the IIAC limb in the pick ems??

Central's 2010 roster is finally up!  My Casio says 133 with 40 Freshmen, 32 Sophs, 32 JRs, 29 Srs. (don't  double checking DD, I'm surely off a couple).

Shows good balance and depth throughout the program.  There's over 30 athletes that number less than 20 (traditional QB numbers) maybe thats an indication the QB/Athlete theory is being applied in Dutch town.

I would like to add my thoughts and prayers for the friends and family of Clinton McMartin.  It sounds like he was a very good man and died far too young.

It's probably those letters of intent that got WB so many freshmen, huh?  Or that athletic scholarship.   ;)

Or maybe they just want to be part of a proven winner. ;)

Luckily for Wartburg, kids don't always think that way.

The Wartburg freshmen breaking camp right now in 1980 had just joined a Wartburg team that ranked dead last in the IIAC for conference championships, and Upper Iowa was the only school in the conference that had gone longer than Wartburg since winning their last championship.

Those Wartburg freshmen went on to win conference titles during their junior and senior years and laid the groundwork for the conference power that Wartburg is today ;)

At the risk of the Warthog's ire, wouldn't they be attending Central then?   :D :D :D

Doolittledog is completely correct on this one.
Sometimes those of us who favor the Knights forget that for most of the 20th century the fall time of the year wasn't football season.  It was basketball preseason and that was what kept us going during those Saturday afternoons when Luther and others were beating up the Knights.  Like obnoxious Iowa fans, we don't always remember that there were plenty of lean years prior to the good times.
