UD outlook from the Telegraph-Herald.

GO SPARTANS!

The DBQ's QB will be the determining factor.  His success will be determined by how small (or how big) of window he will throw into.  My guess is that he will hold the ball a bit longer and look for a little bit more space than his predecessor.  It's natural for a young QB.  This is the difference between a completed pass, an incomplete pass, a pick, or a sack.  Part of the advantage a senior QB has is the experience to trust his own ability and the ability of his targets.  Coach Z no doubt is trying to fast forward that...we shall see.

Age as well as experience are two huge factors in a QB.  Experience IMHO is more important than age.  A first year senior QB is not as good as a second year starting sophmore.  You can not sub age for experience while both are keys to be successful as an athlete grows and physically matures the age thing is important but the on the field experience of reading defenses and know what you can and can not do such as throwing into tight windows comes with experience.  Then there is just the plain old thing of just being on the field and getting comfortable with being out there on the field.  I agree that it will be huge for UD to see how their QB performs.  Having an all american to throw to will help a young QB.

Did anyone else find it curious that Kickoff had Simpson ranked 4th, ahead of Wartburg, in their individual team rankings. Yet they did have them lower in the predicted standings. I know the Coaches poll had them near the bottom and they graduated more starters than anybody else in the conference.

You must have got a differnt Kickoff than mine. Simpson is behind Wartburg in every ranking in mine.

I could well be mistaken, for some reason I haven't been able to get back into it for a couple days. But I do recall being a little surprised at where they had Wartburg and Simpson placed in the rankings from 1 to 238.

That did the trick. Thanks Pat

Upon further review, I was mistaken. Knights ranked 60th-Storm next at 93rd.
Still a little surprised by the love for Simpson, then again, picking from number 50 to say 150, is probably a lot like looking for the prettiest dandylion in your lawn.

I was actually thinking Obnoxious and Non-Alum/Parent of Wartburg player are much better synonyms.

Any Central College fans hinding in this area?

Thought I would ask for some information regarding the Central College football team this year. I understand they are quite highly ranked (believe #9 preseason?) but am curious more about:
- type of offense they run
- type of defense they run
- studs players and their position
- returning starters on O/D
- new freshman ready to make an immediate impact

I will not be making the trip to Iowa from Milwaukee (been to Iowa 2x in my playing days - Upper Iowa and William Penn U - we won them both - I would hope Central is MUCH better than those teams) but wanted to get some info on the team as I listen on the radio.

Thanks  8-)

Willie,
If a slap like you is representitive of a UD grad I'm glad my kid's grades were good enough that he didn't have to go there.

http://www.central.edu/athletics/story.cfm?storyID=3052 will take you to the Central pre-game write-up.

Central College football fans never hide on this board, just ask any Wartburg fans.    ;)

Please do not talk about comparing Central football to Upper Iowa or William Penn teams.  Those teams left the conference because they couldn't compete.  I respect any team out of the WIAC conference, Central is 4-4 against the WIAC and any conference that can beat us 50% of the time is worthy of respect.  Glad you guys beat up on each other during the regular season as much as we do in the IIAC.

Central has a lot of returning lettermen and all-conference starters back.  We do a good balance of running and passing, but lean more towards running unless we are behind.  The QB is very solid and one of his leading receivers is his brother.  Top running back graduated last year, so you will likely see a few people in that position until one really steps up and owns the position.   We are very strong on special teams play traditionally.

It should be a great game.  I don't know if they are webcasting the non-conference games or not this year.
