No he finished his masters at Redlands.  He is coaching Dbacks at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall Minnesota.

It has to be nice having him a bit closer to home.  Wish he was on Central's sidelines.  He has a lot to share.

He is happy to be back in HY-Vee land.  He doesn't seem a country away.  I know he misses Pella but have to have a job.   ;D

Final Wartbugr wins 27-7

From the little bit I was able to watch and listen to this weekend.

Central and Wartburg got nice wins over quality teams.

Coe wins 48-21 over a bad Iowa Wesleyan team.  Coe threw 3 int's on the night.

Dubuque got a lopsided win over a bad Rockford team.

BV disspoints in a lopsided loss to UW-Platteville after narrow losses to the Pioneers the previous 2 seasons.

Luther did their usual close game but eventual loss to the Oles

Loras...loss

Simpson...loss

Cornell...new coach, same result...but I think they win against Macalester next weekend and then we will see how the IIAC shakes out.  Could the Rams get a win or more against BV, Loras, Luther, Simpson???  We shall see

From my limited viewing, I thought Central looks a little bigger and maybe a little farther along than Wartburg at this point.

UD defense looks vastly improved over last season.  The OL for the Spartans I think still needs a bit of work.  Skill positions at Dubuque look solid.

Coe is a big mystery right now, having not been able to see them against IWC.

Can't wait for next weekend.

Congratulations to UW-Oshkosh on bringing their A game.  Not one turnover went to the Dutch today and we were uncharacteristicly generous on special teams play and defense much of the day.  But the Central D really stepped up at the end of the game to preserve the win.

It wasn't quite the game I expected to see from the Dutch, but they did what they had to do to win and given the emotionally tragic week, it was a great win.  Nice to see the team pick Coach Mac to lead them in the school song choras and cheer after the win.

It was good to see Coach Mc leading the song at the end.  You said it well HATS off to UWO.  They played very well.  The came up with stops and scored when they needed to.  I thought UWO had a good offense but I think there problem in the WIAC will be the defense.  They only stopped Central once in the second half.  Good to see the Dutch work hard and come up with a win after a very trying week for Coach.

Spartans won the scrimmage against UWO, true it was a scrimmage but I had a feeling the central -UWO game would be close. Spartans  need a win aginst platteville

If one wants to verify the value of a good O-line, being at Wartburg tonight would be the evidence.  Without the big horses up front that were protecting Mr. Tanney the past two years, he looked almost mortal tonight.  Don't get me wrong, he is still a fine qb.  He was just having to run more tonight than I have seen him have to do in the past.  It seemed to me, Wartburg's defense was getting more licks on him than I had seen either the Orange (Wartburg) or Green (St. Norbert) Knights in previous Monmouth games I attended in the last couple years.

I have seen a few people say that the BV game was a ugly. It sure was. If you look at the score you would think the Beavs never had a chance. They turned the ball over 7 times. Take a look at the Florida vs. Miami Ohio game. Score looked lopsided but the Miami turned the ball over 5 times and if you watched that game you know how close they were to doing the unthinkable.

Warthog, i agree tanney looked mortal, but he didn't get a lot of help from his receivers either. Quite a few dropped balls. But you have to acknowledge the Knights defense. They were a blown coverage for a 60 yard bomb away from a shut out. Definetly an improvement over last year.

Our offense is still a work in rogress. Too many stupid penalties. Stifel took a while to settle down, probably from not playing for so long.  We defenetly need to improve, and I think we will.

Overall, it's great to win the games you're not supposed to.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

It was fun to watch the Wartburg team grow in confidence as the game went on last night.  They went from looking like a focused and hard working team, to a team over flowing with confidence at the end of the game.   A victory like that last night was just what the Knights needed after a season like last year.

So based on your logic people could base their views of D-III on Cornell???   ???

WOW, not much love for the Knights in the W'loo Courier. 3rd billing after UIU + Luther in Small College weekend games preview. ???

http://wcfcourier.com/sports/college/article_ad1bb108-b758-11df-9194-001cc4c03286.html

"Dan Stiefel, a junior from Sterling Heights, Mich., has won a three-way battle to replace record-setting Nick Yordi at quarterback over Mike Sosnowski, a senior from Eldridge and Ryan Wurtz, a sophomore from Milford. Stiefel started his career at Division II Saginaw Valley State, where he passed for 2,113 yards and 14 touchdowns as a freshman. He transferred to Grand Valley State last year where three former Wartburg coaches reside - Jack Ginn, Erik Koehler and Tim Morrison. ... Wartburg has won 12 consecutive and 16 of its last 17 home openers at Walston-Hoover Stadium."

SO if he was so good at DII he should have stayed there???  Sorry Warty's  we'll see how this plays out, but when I think DII I see UIU and don't automatically equate that to an IIAC game changer.

Anywhoo - Good luck to all the IIAC'ers today, especially the DUTCH.
Win or lose we still booze!!

Just got this from Central SID.  They posted some highlights from the game on Utube.  Here is the link if you want to watch them.

Coe did not have their best O-linemen playing nor their best D-lineman playing.

Thought they looked good regardless.

Two of the interceptions were Boyle's.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

DutchHawk

Wait what? I thought they returned 6 "starters" from last year, they all sat out or what. Its hard for me to hear that as an excuse when you have that much experience from a very good team last year. Someone has got to be able to step in.

Plus...its freakin Iowa Wesleyan. If you are a Top 15ish team, there is no way they should put 21 up, let alone stay that close, IMO.
