I had it all through the first half and the dance team's show and now I get an error message that says something about reaching embedded limits being reached.  Technology...

I kept getting that message all afternoon long.

Hey, no doubt -- my goal is to point out the possible, I guess, to propose something that might happen. There's certainly a way that Central could lose, though, and that was what I was getting at.

Pat,

I think the IIAC is a pretty balanced league and any team on a given day can win.  Even Purple Heys Cornell Rams can pull one out if you don't take care of business.  I am back from Pella, I left after the game was suspended for lightning.  I can't get it on the internet now so I have no idea if it has resumed yet.  The Dutch were shutting the running game down pretty well.  Hanus for UD was throwing the ball well.  It was 34-8 Dutch when I left but UD left some points out there.  Zwiefel dropped two in the endzone as did a couple of other for UD.  Three of the drops were on the same drive so there were possibly 11 points UD could have had.

After watching the Coe-Luther game, Coe does have a fine QB.  Don't know the stats at this point but he was impressive.

Central wins 34-8 with 8:20 not played due to lightening.  Game called after waiting in the fieldhouse for almost an hour and a half.  No sign that the rain or lightening was going to let up and no chance that UD would catch up, glad the game was finally called finished.

UD has been a thorn in our side for some time and Zweifel was getting his numbers.  He and Flemming are very good receivers.  We were happy to not give up the big play, but UD had lots of yardage with shorter passes.  I still think they are one of the better teams in the conference, but now that they have had two early losses, it will be up to the Coach to make sure they don't follow old patterns and give up.

Central did shoot themselves in the foot with many penalties and another long snap about 5 feet over  Brondyk's head for a safety when it went out the back of the endzone.  Have to cut that out for sure.  The best UD could do was 2 field goals.  Central D got tough at the goal again.  UD defense also very tough near the goal line.  Bandow got to play as much of the 4th quarter at QB as got played.  First series went no where, but we were able to snap the ball to Brondyk near the goal line successfully.  UD bobbled the return and we picked it up and ran it to the one yard line.  Bandow went in for an easy TD.

Nate Snead had a beautiful first TD of the game.  Everyone went to one side of the field and he ran the other way into the endzone with nobody near him.  Great fake out.  Worked well a couple of other times, but one got called back.  All in all, good game for the Dutch.  They came out strong today.

Spent the time waiting to find out if the game was going to continue in the field house.  The Dutch squad came up, I think UD players stayed down at the field under the home stands.  Lots of energetic football players laying down conserving energy.   ;)  Others got bored and started shooting hoops.  I know why most of them play football.   ;D ;D ;D  One guy made a couple of nice 3 pointers and a hoop from a sitting/laying position for a new twist on the old "slop bucket" shot.    ::)

For awhile it sounded like we were in the half hour waiting period for the game to resume, then the thunder and lightening started up all over again.  Shortly after the lightening resumed someone came into the fieldhouse and said something to some of the players.  A cheer went up from many of the players, they grabbed their gear and went to the other end of the field house to sing the school song and cheer.  We were told the game was officially over.  From the looks of things and the weather forecast, the weather could continue most of the night.

Who was the most impressive team this weekend? Least?

Attempting to avoid the homerism here but I think Central winning big over DBQ and keeping them out of the end zone is impressive with the popularity of picking the upset in this game. Also factoring in the fact tha dubuque was picked to finish 4th in the conference I believe. Coe and Wartburg I expected to win in the fashion they did, they took care of business.

Least impressive to me is a tie, Loras and Simpson. 14-7 here...well that just doesnt say much. Was a good chance for one of these evenlyish matched teams to make a statement, and neither did.

Hope everyone stayed healthy this weekend....see you in CR next week!!!

Go Dutch!!!

Agreed.  Too bad this game isn't the last game of the season.  But it will be a big game, no doubt.  Central did look much better today.  We had the safety and penalties that need to be cleaned up, but at least we didn't fumble or throw any interceptions.  And we finally got our first turnover of the season.  The rush defense did another fantastic job today.  They didn't get to the QB much, if at all, for sacks, but they made him hurry some of his passes.  Zweifel caught almost everything thrown his way.  I can't believe Coe will have the passing game that UD has.  They have a fantastic QB, but their receivers I don't think are as talented.  It might make for a long day for their offense.  Just so ours is having a good day.

As a wise man once told me, the best defense is a good offense. If our offense can run the ball, control the clock, and score touchdowns, not field goals. We will be in fantastic shape at Coe. Keep the ball away from them, rest our D, and put up huge rushing numbers will equal a Dutch victory.

Are the other games in the IIAC in delay?  Haven't seen any other final scores posted.

All the IIAC scores are posted now.

I thought they cleaned up the turnovers from last week which was a good thing.  They did have a lot of penalties called.  The Dutch D was impressive in the Red Zone.  I think that says a lot when you keep UD out of the endzone.

Had trouble watching the game, but glad on the Dutch victory! ;D

I don't want to put a damper on a victory or the highlights of a Saturday of football, but as I was going through the channels and this story came up.

Very sad story on an outstanding young man. They had the interview with the coach and he could barely keep it together.

Wow, that is a sad story. Great student, great football player, died way too young.  Makes me think of Central's Jason Goulden who is now back at Central and on the team.  He suffered seizures and left school for a year.
