They are hoping to get him a medical redshirt.

Welcome back doolittledog.  Glad to see you are well.

Can't say as much for the news about Michael Zweifel.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Quote from the article according to the UD SID: "Zweifel, a senior, appeared in four games this season, making him eligible for a medical redshirt for 2011, Misner said."

Umm, I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure if you play in more than 2 games, you are no longer eligible for a hardship. They might want to get that straightened out first  ???

Medical Hardship Waiver

If a student-athlete suffers a season-ending injury or illness after competing in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year, he/she may qualify for a medical hardship waiver which would allow him/her an additional season of competition during the five-year period of eligibility. To qualify for a medical hardship:

(a) the student-athlete's injury or illness must occur in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition or subsequent to the first day of classes in the student-athlete's senior year in high school;

(b) the injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and must result in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and

(c) the injury or illness must occur when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests/dates of competition or 20% of the institution's scheduled contests/dates of competition in his/her sport (whichever number is greater).

I may be reading this incorrectly, but isn't (b) and (c) contradicting each other?

When reading this again, it looks as if it is stating that the athlete must not have played in more than two games which were within the first half of play?

I'm feeling like I have a Simpson edumacation trying to figure this out!  :o

That's the way I read it. I feel bad for the kid if his carreer is prematurely over. Having to deal with that is not easy. At least if it's the Doc shutting him down there can't be any doubt.

DDog, glad to see you got sprung! Celebrate with a nice single malt scotch. Tell the Missus that it's an expectorant.

I know it's not covered above (maybe old text?) but for any sport you have to have played in 1/3 of your games or less, plus one game.  For football, you are granted 10 games, so if you get hurt in your 4th game or sooner, you can get a redshirt.  You get hurt on the opening kickoff of Game 5, your career is over.

How good is McGivney?  I have seen the stats but does he stand out that much on Defense?   I havent read previous posts so I apologize if it has been covered.

I was waiting for someone to mention that against Coe, Zweifel did not play. But, not only did it not get mentioned but no one gave UD credit for taking Coe to the wire without him  ;) Supposedly, if you shut down Zweifel, you shut down the Spartans Offense. Guess not, still amassed over 400 yards on the 5th best team in the nation. I suppose the spartans might have a few other weapons at their disposal. I just want an explosion this weekend against Lorass. Use the nukes!!!

Two Simpson football players are talking...

The one says, "Did you hear all the jokes the Central people are telling about us on D3 Boards?" (looking for comfort from his friend)
The other says, "Yea, aren't they going to be surprised when we win this game!"
The one replies, "Great....now you're going to start telling jokes? I thought you were my friend."  :o

I wish I could say I saved the best stuff for Friday but this is all I got.

A Simpson man has a bad accident and loses an eye.  Unfortunately, the best prosthesis he can afford is made of wood and doesn't look very good.  He is very sensitive about it but copes the best he can.  His fraternity throws a party and every one is dancing and having a good time.  The Simpson man notices one woman who is homely even by Simpson standards who is sitting by herself and not having much fun.  He decides that he has a responsibility as a host to see that she has a good time.  He walks over and says, "would you care to dance?"  And she says, "would I!"  And he says, "ugly!"

Welcome back Double D! This one's for you!

A UD grad and a Simpson grad both apply for the same job, and after several interviews it is narrowed down to the two of them. The recruiter brings them both in and says "You are both qualified for the job, so we are going to give you one final test. Whoever gets the best score will get the job." So the two sit in a room and take the test, turn it in, and sit and wait while it gets graded. Pretty soon the recruiter comes in and tells them "You both only missed one question, but I am going to give the job to the UD grad." This makes the Simpson alum mad, so he jumps up and says "If we both got the same score, why does he get the job?" The recruiter looks and him and replies "Well, you both missed the same question, on the UD grad's questionnaire he put 'I don't know', and you put 'Me either;"

I do like to visit this board because there is often interesting banter going on...however all these jokes directed at Simpson, with nothing in return is getting a little stale, from an outsider point of view. So, in the interests of fair play, I've decided to get out of my seat and stand up for Simpson. Here goes:

Albert Einstein arrives at a party and introduces himself to the first person he sees and asks, "What is your IQ?"
The man answers "241."
"That is wonderful!," says Albert. "We will talk about the Grand Unification Theory and the mysteries of the Universe. We will have much to discuss!"

Next Albert introduces himself to a woman and asks, "What is your IQ?"
The lady answers, "144."
"That is great!," responds Albert. "We can discuss politics and current affairs. We will have much to discuss!"

Albert goes to another person and asks, "What is your IQ?"
The man answers, "51." Albert responds, "How 'bout them Dutch?"
I'VE REACHED THAT AGE
WHERE MY BRAIN GOES
FROM "YOU PROBABLY
SHOULDN'T SAY THAT," TO
"WHAT THE HELL, LET'S SEE
WHAT HAPPENS."
