(NCAA Division III)
DUBUQUE BOWL: Loras 20, Dubuque 10 — Taking injured All-American wide receiver Michael Zweifel (sidelined for the year) out of the Spartans offense is like cutting off an arm and a leg simultaneously and trying to run a marathon. Look for Loras, owner of the Iowa Conference's weakest passing game, to do most of its work on the ground behind the improving running team of Matt Hillard (309 yards, a 6.1 yard-per-carry average and five touchdowns), Ryan Baez (295 yards) and Johnny Jackson. Loras also boasts another possible X-factor in kicker Tyler Wilker, who hit from 48 yards last week.

If I were Justin Spaudling and Kyle Acker, this would be all the motivation I would need. Oh, and I guess Demacus Fleming and Miles Hookstead aren't worth squat either. Man, if I could only put the pads on one more time. I have that friday pre-game stomach feeling already

Anyone else on here having trouble getting to read all of the West Column in Around the Regions?

I really like the "look" of the new IIAC website but think the user-friendliness has a LOT to be desired compared to the former one.

Where in the heck do you find season statistics for teams/individuals? Can anyone post a link???

Thanks!

Anybody know what happened to Cornell RB Charles McDonald? I didnt see him dressed last week against Central...

You go to IowaConference.com.  Choose football from the drop down menu.  On the right side you choose statistics.  Then you click on the year you want and bam.  There it is.

W-CF Courier Preview Wartburg-BV, Luther-Cornell and that D2 school east of Waverly

http://wcfcourier.com/sports/college/article_c7a071d2-d2db-11df-9c05-001cc4c002e0.html

"What to watch: Wartburg is off to its best start since 2007, when it also began 4-0. Buena Vista has been a tough opponent for the Knights, especially in Storm Lake, where the last three meetings have all been determined by a margin of seven points or less. The Knights continue to ride the best defense in the Iowa Conference. Wartburg ranks first in scoring defense (6.8 ppg), first in total defense (224.5) and first in rush defense (70). The Knights also rank first in rushing offense at 221 yards per game. Running back Reese Thompson tops the conference by averaging 109.5 yards per game. Buena Vista also owns a stingy defense. The Beavers have allowed just 17 points per game and 272 yards."

I can't end the week with a UD/Simpson joke, so....

A recent Simpson graduate becomes a police officer, and his assignment is to pull over speeders at a particular bridge. He's a big strapping lad, 6' tall, 220 lbs. He's at his assigned post gleefully using his radar gun to pull over speeders and give them tickets, when along comes a red and white Cadillac going very fast. He quickly pulls the car over to discover a young woman behind the wheel. He asks, "where ya goin in such a hurry?" She replies, "I have a medical emergency" The Simpson cop says with some incredulity, "medical emergency? You don't look like a doctor to me." She replies a tad chagrined, "Officer, I"m a rectum stretcher, and its critical that I get to my patient" The Simpson cop says, "rectum stretcher??? okay, I give how do you stretch a rectum" The Central grad says, "well, first, you use just one finger, then two, then four, then your whole hand, your arms, and finally" using her arms to demonstrate, "I've stretched rectums to 6 feet!" The Simpson cop asks, "what would anyone do with a 6 foot rectum??" The girl replies, "put them on a bridge with a radar gun."

All joking aside...let both teams have great and injury free games tomorrow!

Along with everyone else!  ;D ;D ;D

Agreed, everybody stay healthy. Ii just got back from a high school game and got to watch a player puke his guts out on the field. Anything looks good now.

Injuries... Unfortunately every week comes with the report of injuries. When I read the post about Michael Zweifel I thought to myself that really sucks. I've never seen him play, but I think it would be safe to say that when he played the game he went the little extra. That little extra is what makes a great player. That little extra is what increases the chance of injury.
Two senior players on my son's high school team suffered season ending injuries. One broke (not fractured) his leg and the other dislocated his shoulder along with torn ligaments. He will be in a stationary brace 24/7 for the next six months. Both were planning on continuing to play football in college. The chances of that have now been eliminated.
Why bring this up? I just thought it would be good idea to be thinking of those players on the sidelines this week end. They put out that little extra not only for themselves, but for us. So I would like to say thank you to all of them and of coarse offer my prayers for their speedy recovery.  8-)

It's sunny and 74 degrees outside.  That looks like a perfect day for some football in Iowa.  Let's have another hard fought, injury free day out there.  I'll be paying a bit more attention to the 6pm game tonight, but that gives me a bit more time to look in on the other games today.  Which will be nice.

Purple Heys

Looks like the Rams had more than a little bit of fight in them today.  Luther kicks a FG with 1:13 to play to escape with a 24-21 win at Decorah.

Rams put together their most complete performance to date...a lost fumble at their own 17 with 2:41 to play was their undoing.

Perhaps this is a turning point with BV coming to town next week.  Looks like they made a change at QB.   :-\
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Congrats to Wartburg Coach Rick Willis, win #100 @ Wartburg.   28-0 @ BV

Okay, I know it doesn't happen often, but I am at a loss for words today.  Congratulations to Central on their victory and to all of the winners of today's games.  My loss for words is trying to figure out what really happened to Simpson.  There is really almost always something positive to say about our opponent's play, but I'm struggling with Simpson.  They did keep us scoreless the first quarter and got first downs before we did, but this just was not what I would expect out of Simpson.  Even when they had losing teams in recent years or decades past, they were able to work up some enthusiasm for playing Central and they had a generally good fan base.  Their fan numbers were down, they didn't really play well at any point, even their TD off a blocked Central punt was kind of ho-hum.  What gives?  We've been picking on them with jokes all week, no replies, no "we're going to show them attitude".  Nothing.  I think Simpson is the new Cornell.  Makes me wonder how long Coach G will be around.  Any speculation?

On the plus side for PH, I do think Cornell has a valid challenger for the cellar dwellar position and from the sounds of things, Cornell played well against Luther.  I have more faith in Coach B than Coach G.  PH deserves something positive for all of his years of dedicated support, I think he may finally have it.
