AZD, nice to see 71 get some PT on varsity today.  Glad his mom was able to be here to see it.

Congratulations to Coach Willis on #100 today.

UD loses 14-6.  Losing to Loras really sucks!

I don't know if this has been talked about before or not but I'd like to know if anyone can actually confirm that they see Luther's McGivney tackle anyone and everyone that seems to touch the ball. He was credited with 12 solo tackles and 13 assists today.

7-6 game with under 2 minutes left.  The Loras RB gets into the secondary and a UD DB just put his hands on his hips and watched the guy run by him into the endzone.  Unbelievable.  The Spartans give Coe everything they can handle one week, and then let Loras beat them the next.

I guess there is always Simpson next weekend.  I don't get it.  Luckily for me, my kids were on the computer most of the night so I didn't have to watch that mess.  We need to do better than that.

Oh man, that does suck.  I really thought UD would win.  I don't have any strong feelings one way or another about Loras, but since none of their fans come to the board, I was really hoping UD would win.   :(

I sure didn't see that coming.  But it does show that Loras can still get up for a rivalry game.  Simpson was just not their emotionally today at all.  Sorry  they didn't win, they should have done it for their number one fans on here, particularly Doolittle after his week.

I'm glad Doolittle is feeling healthier, sorry he isn't feeling "better".

Yikes, Coach Z needs to straighten that out right away.  I have to say though that there may be something to playing "down" after a tight game with Coe.  Central really didn't look great the next week either.  They got the ball at the 9 yard line and could not score against Cornell.  I give Cornell credit  for rising to the occassion, but still shake my head on how they could not get a score with a give me like that.

Look at it this way, you can always say it was because MZ wasn't playing.   ;)

Distant cousin who is an alum and saw the Homecoming game between Cornell and Luther said the only player on the field for Luther was the guy you mentioned....McGivney.  He did move from sideline to sideline like Chicago Bear #54.  Otherwise it was a boring game except for a near Cornell College victory.

OK, OK< THAT WAS A DESIGNED PLAY TO LET LORASS SCORE, UD had no time outs left and if they got a first down, could run the clock out, It was genius, let them score to get the ball back and try to score and 2 pt conversion to tie, only option left. Not just the DB, the entire defense stood up and let him run in the endzone

Look, I dislike Lorass greatly. I also hate losing to them even more. But, this was a hard fought and defensive game. I am proud of how the defense has been playing for the most part and eliminate a few dumb penalties at crucial times and a few over or under throws and we were able to put together some nice drives.

2 huge plays that killed us were the blocked FG at the end of the 1st half which would have given UD a 9-7 lead. And the penalty inside the 5 yard line where we could have come away with a TD.

The last score was a gimme and whatever announcer said anyone gave up is an idiot. It was designed once they used all their time outs and lorass got a first down. It was the ONLY way we had a chance to win. Coach Z wasn't playing to make it "close". He played to win and unfortunately, for the third time this year, we came up a little short.

Willie, you are right.  I tuned in a couple of plays before the TD and listening to the Loras announcers it seemed like UD didn't try.  It wasn't occuring to me they were letting the Duhawks score so we could try to tie up the game.  This was a hard one to take.  For some reason, Loras has our offense figured out.  But, I am happy with how our defense has played this year.

Let's move on and get a win against Simpson next week and then see where we can take our season.

DBQ1965

It was some "creative" strategy letting the DuHawks score so the Spartans could get another crack at the end-zone.  Too bad UD isn't more effective in the "red zone."

I've heard there is a team in the IIAC with a "Find a Way" mentality, but that team was more effective with a "force a turnover" strategy than a "let the other team score a TD" strategy.   ;)  If you are out of TO's, I guess it is an option, just not one that I've seen used successfully.

On a brighter note, it sure is a good thing that the Central FB player that proposed with the rest of the team looking on got the answer he wanted.  Would have put a damper on things if she had said no.   :D
