Way to go Knights, great win in a hostile atmosphere.  I must say I was suprised by the treatment of Wartburg fans by Coe.  The Coe fans were great but your employees leave a bad taste.

NewKnightDad:  Don't leave us hanging like.  What do you mean?  The Warthog clan found everyone associated with Coe to be very helpful and friendly today.  This included the guys helping direct parking, the ticket takers, the concession helpers, the fans, and even some of the coaches after the game.  I was hoping Wartburg makes as good of impression when opponents visit Walston-Hoover.

 From D3football on October 15th:

Pat's take: Wartburg at No. 6 Coe. Wartburg has been sitting outside the Top 25 for too long, and admittedly, I could find a higher spot for the Knights on my ballot. This weekend provides for the distinct possibility that Wartburg could move up in our poll with a close loss.

That was a good call Pat, but I don't think the Knights wanted to depend on a close loss to find themselves in the Top 25 list.

CR Gazette report from the Wartburg - Coe game

http://thegazette.com/2010/10/16/wartburg-smacks-coe-31-21/

It  says IF Wartburg, Coe and Central all tie for title Wartburg gets  automatic bid citing "Rose Bowl" rule.

"Wartburg (6-0) is in the driver's seat in the IIAC with its 4-0 record. Yes, the Knights still have to play Central, but even a loss and a potential three-way tie for the title favors them considering Coe and Central qualified for the NCAA Division III playoffs last season.

The league's tiebreaker for its automatic playoff bid is the team that has gone the longest without a postseason berth."

As a Knights fan let hope that isn't necessary.

congrats to the Knights on their win over a very good Coe team. Now I just hope the coachs hide all the newspapers and foucs on UD next week,as UD has always scared me. They always give the knights touble. As anyone hear on the young man from Luther that got hurt?

I should have waited until this morning to post as the celebration went on for a long time, thank god I didn't text an old girlfriend!!  ;D

It was probably the guy at the gate that unless you were wearing crimson and gold he would not let you in a little early to put some blankets down to reserve some seats.  Now I know this seems and is trivial but when he makes the comment that "Well if we had as much money as Wartburg we would have plenty of seating" that was wrong and uncalled for all the while the stands are filling up with Coe fans right behind him!  Cue the Wartburg debt comments......

We had some pretty worked up moms come back to the tailgate after this.

Maybe someone from Coe on here can explain why they don't haul in some portable stands for the visitor side other than the two they put NE and SE corners.

Had some great tailgating at The Home Port yesterday as well, thanks Lou!!

From the Central write-up of the game, the injured Luther player was Chris Norton, a freshman, and no immediate word on his condition was available.  I couldn't find anything on the Luther site about him, other than that the game was delayed for an injury to a Luther player.

Prayers continue to go out for a full and complete recovery and to his family.  Serious injury is always terrible, but somehow the fact that the kid is only a freshman makes it worse.  The letting go by the parents and transition to college life by freshmen students is hard enough without throwing this in during the first semester.  I wouldn't wish it on anyone at any college or year in college, but your freshman year is the start of your new life as an adult.  It's just sad.  Hope it isn't as serious as the time delay would indicate and that indeed it was just delayed for precautionary measures.

I just checked, and it's more expensive to attend Coe than Wartburg.

You must have been sitting near the nicer ones.  There were quite a few unsavory comments being hurled from the south endzone.

Also, I'll refer everyone back to my post from last week on questions about how the Iowa Conference uses the Rose Bowl Rule.

Got reading over the past few pages and wanted to clear something up about the Rose Bowl Rule in regard to determining the IIAC automatic qualifier.  Even in a three-way tie, the first tiebreaker in the IIAC is head-to-head.  So if Wartburg, Central, and Coe all finish 7-1 in conference play...[and] if the tied teams split their games against each other, the Rose Bowl Rule is used to eliminate one of the teams.  Since Central was last year's IIAC champion and received the conference's automatic qualifier, they would be eliminated and the head-to-head winner of the Wartburg-Coe game would go to the postseason.

Too many other teams besides Central on the schedule to be thinking about this NCAA playoffs nonsense.  Luther and Dubuque coming to Walston-Hoover the next two weekends can both pull out victories in Waverly.  The Knights in recent years have found the Spartans hard to beat and with the rivalry game against the Norse you never know what will happen.  Years ago when the fortunes of our football teams were reversed, a win over Luther could make for a successful Wartburg season.

Thoughts and prayers to the Luther player as well.

The Knights must take each game seriously and can never look past any opponent.

If any of you Spartan fans are going to be in Waverly next week for the game stop by our tailgate and we will treat you to a meal and drinks!!

Since it is Homecoming we are also going to be doing a breakfast tailgate next week so look for the flag to be flying before 7am!!!!   ;D

No doubt. I should have written more about it but midnight is not a good time for motivation. :)

I wouldn't have wanted to promise that Wartburg would take a big jump up the poll with a win, because we have some voters that simply won't do that. But with 18 ballots in, I'm feeling good. (No, I won't say more than that, and I have a commitment from 2-7:30 or so so it will be a while before it's posted.)

I think every team should follow this. The scenario of three teams being 7-1 are slim to none. A great season has developed here, but the parties not over.... :)

There's nothing worse than seeing your son down on the field. I remember it like it was today when my son wasn't getting up. Also the look on my wife's face when I turned to her and told her that was our son.
I'm still inside that everything done on Saturday was precautionary. I continue to check to see if anyone is posting any news. So, my Prayers will continue and will be thinking of the young man and his family.

The power of prayer works! Keep praying for the young man from Luther for a full and complete recovery!

If you go to the Luther website ( www.luther.edu ) the football page has a link to Caring Bridge at the hospital in Rochester, Minnesota where you can get an update on Chris Norton and send him a message of encouragement.
