I think a quarter of the selections are a joke. Especially when you get into some of the second team and honorable mention categories. Politics or a$$ kissing if you ask me.

My response to this was deleted, but was it worse than this quote? All this quote does is run down a group of fine young men who were rewarded for their efforts this season. It also brings into question the integrity of those who selected them.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Pat Coleman

I deleted your response because "who asked you" is, in effect, the moderator's job to police, not another user. If you want us to respect your opinion then respect his right to have an opinion.

Pat, his quote ended with "if you ask me". Well no one asked him. No one asked me either. But describing some of those that were selected as "a joke" is not acceptible. It shows a lack of respect to the players. Even if he doesn't like the process, he shouldn't run down the players. Perhaps he could tell us who he disagrees with and maybe send those players an email stating why he thinks their All-Conference selections were "a joke".

Perhaps. But it's his right to express it here since it didn't violate our Terms of Service and I don't like when people try to suppress people's right to express their feelings when there's no reason to do so.

If these kids were afraid of a little criticism, they wouldn't suit up, methinks. I think the parents should be able to rise to the same standard. This isn't high school -- these are grown-ups and it is fair for people to express opinions about their performance.

Thanks for a great season Kohawks!

Tough day for both IIAC teams.

Congrats to Coe and Wartburg for making the playoffs.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Hey FBD, I guess you should have said "in your opinion" before your statement.

But what ever you do don't have an opinion on UWW having an advantage over private schools!! :-*

Luther has their 2011 schedule up...

Sept. 10  William Penn  Home 1:00 p.m.
Sept. 17  Central* Pella, Iowa  1:00 p.m.
Oct. 1  Loras* Home 1:00 p.m.
Oct. 8  Coe* Cedar Rapids, Iowa  1:00 p.m.
Oct. 15  Buena Vista*  Homecoming 1:00 p.m.
Oct. 22  Simpson* Home 1:00 p.m.

Nov. 5  Cornell* Mount Vernon, Iowa  1:00 p.m.

The Norse welcome our old conference friends Billie Penn into Carlson the 2nd week of the season, a Billie Penn team that went 10-1 this past season but was left out of the NAIA playoffs.  And, Luther gets a season ending game against their rivals, Wartburg.

Nice to see an IIAC team with their schedule posted so early.

Is this an omen that UD will close the season against Loras?

My son's senior high school season is over with a 13-12 loss.
It was definitely a heart breaker with two missed extra points and a missed game winning field goal at the end.
With that being said, I have to bring up the pressure that is put on a kicker. Obviously the pressure was way too high for a young teenager in this game.
My curiosity is on what a kicker thinks the day after a game with missed opportunities? Not as much as the young kicker during this game, but someone at a higher level.
One of the things I always keep in mind is that kicking is not easy. Could I go out there and make an easy "chip" shot? No. That is what I told my son the Saturday morning after the game.
As I mentioned it was a heart breaker, but I'm just hoping that there's not a young man walking around with a long lasting broken heart.  :-\

Whoa, whoa, whoa my wartburg best friend. I NEVER disrespected the PLAYERS. I said a quarter of the selections were a joke in my opinion. I did not say they were not good players nor did I even mention the PLAYERS. But I do think there is some "politics" involved in the process that get some players in and leave some well deserving ones out and I will leave it at that. That is MY OPINION. If you reverse my opinion, I could have said I think they did a fine job in selecting 75% of the all conference selections.

On a different note....I heard that "big-brother" is going to be keeping a closer eye on wartburg's financial aid awarding to student-athletes this year. Do you think that could have an impact on recruiting for all sports or just football ???  :o

I wish they would, and look into everyone else's at the same time. Then we could put the rumors to rest, and maybe find out that Wartburg may not have been the worst offender after all.

OOPS! I forgot to say "In my opinion" first! ;)

Not to worry.  Generally the investigations are made against those institutions that have suddenly got better. With Wartburg being at or near the top of the all-sports trophy cream bucket for 15 to 20 years, I'd expect the sudden rise of the Spartans to mediocre status would raise more eyebrows than than Wartburg remaining a power.

Just my opinion!
