I wish they would, and look into everyone else's at the same time.

The NCAA does this each and every year for the past six years or so.

Just my opinion (whew, I'm safe now)  But in the old western movies...the bad guys wore black...therefore, Wartburg MUST be doing something shady :P

It's been awhile since the board has had this much fun getting under each others skin.  This is kind of fun to sit back and watch...you know, instead of actually getting any work done here at the office  :D

Hot stove league time.  Time to talk about kids getting roofing jobs, police blotter reports, recruiting news, finantial aid accusations, facilities upgrades, schools leaving/joining the conference, best places to drink...I mean get a bite of food at different conference schools...all that fun stuff to occupy us until next fall.

IMO......

I would think that the next ten days will greatly add to the profits of the Hy-Vee Wine and Spirit division in Waverly. There will be a three day warm up before the holiday and then Rockstar week follows.

And be careful of the guys in black, they might work up a #6 on you.

From the Obvious/Not so Obvious Files:

Obvious:  Wartburg and Coe having suffered 1st round defeats, means more IIAC football players, families, and fans have to figure out what to do occupy their 1st holiday weekend without any IIAC football in a couple years.

Not so Obvious:  Usage hours on NCAA 11 and Call of Duty: Black Ops spikes in the Great State of Iowa during this holiday weekend.

Have a great Thanksgiving everybody!   ;D

You could get a PS3 for Christmas and Create a UD team to face off against my juggernaut Rams in NCAA 11...having just dispatched MUC, they advance to the Rose Bowl.  :o   (Our 6'8" QB that runs a 4.2 is a lock for the Heisman)   8-)

That 6'8 QB is sure to leave Cornell during the off season when...

A - Warty offers him a boat load more in finantial aid
B - UD tells him they have shuttle service to/from East Dubuque...whose bars are open till 3:30am
C - He can't imagine taking his talents to the MWC after next season :o
D - He doesn't want to go up against MY D line that averages 6'9 400lbs and runs a 4.4...plus have bad attitudes :D

If I get a PS3 for christmas it will just mean mrs doolittle will beat both of us with her team once she figures it all out!!!

On a different note....I heard that "big-brother" is going to be keeping a closer eye on wartburg's financial aid awarding to student-athletes this year. Do you think that could have an impact on recruiting for all sports or just football ???  :o

Not to worry.  Generally the investigations are made against those institutions that have suddenly got better. With Wartburg being at or near the top of the all-sports trophy cream bucket for 15 to 20 years, I'd expect the sudden rise of the Spartans to mediocre status would raise more eyebrows than than Wartburg remaining a power.

Just my opinion!

Well, you bring up a good point......looking at history, wartburg made a pretty fast and steady climb out of the scrape heap to competing for conference championships in almost all sports.....hmmmmmm ???

Now, you could look at it 2 ways:
1.) They figured the only way they would beat the centrals, etc was to buy off the better student-athletes that wanted to attend central, etc..

OR

2.) They built all kinds of new facilities, hired good coaches, and strengthened academic programs, etc to attract the student-athletes to attend there over the competition.

Let's play pretend and say that number 2 is the reason for wartburgs rise to success. Well, then, you could attribute UD's rise to success in many sports as a result of those same financial commitments to the institution over the past decade.

However, wartburg does wear black so I am choosing option 1 for them and option 2 for UD.  ;D

Per some dictionary definitions, it's also referred to as "the threshold of hell" and other terms of endearment...

No point in knocking Wartburg for athletic scholarships/aid.  W just decided to be in the top athletic tier of the IIAC and did what Central had done in the 1970's.......decided that the focus of the college is on athletics for the recruitment of students in general.  Not a violation of the DIII rules at all.  Music, science and literature students who are athletic are equally in the mix.  Coe has decided to do the same after entering the IIAC.  Cornell just decided to forgo the athletic component and stick with music, science and literature.  Such is as it is.

Another thing Wartburg did was increase it's enrollment from 1400 to 1800 then JackO arrived. Also you have to give credit to Gary Grace the AD who hired the coaches who lead the increase in success.

A day early to all IIACers ... Happy Thanksgiving.

If you will be on the road, may your travels be safe.

If at home, may your plates be full.

And in the next few days, may all your favorite teams win!
