The Dutch will have some big holes to fill...with 4 year punter and kicker both graduating.

The Dutch will REALLY miss Brondyke...a punter like that is a defense's best friend.

I tried hard to represent the Dutch in the ESPN College Pick’ems, but I ended up in 33,784th place. I chased SpeedKills8 throughout the season, but could not catch him.

Congratulations to SpeedKills8 on his first place win! 8-)

I don't know how the Iowa team is going to handle it here in Arizona during their bowl game?

The high is only going to be 77 degrees today!  ;D 8-) ;D

As I recall, the game doesn't kick until 7:00 local time -- it might cool off to 60 degrees or so by then. That's a little closer to Iowa weather. :)

Doolittle,

Guess I forgot to respond to you.  That picture you sent was where the final four, which we placed 3rd, was held last june.  It is a lovely facility.  Hoping to put one in the Time Check area of Cedar Rapids.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Any rumors out there about the Loras job?

Congratulations to all of the IIAC players selected for the DIII All Stars game in Mexico City.  Central was very well represented, giving the Wartburg fans that can no longer complain about Willis being shunned for COY something to complain about.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

I would agree the picks favor Central, but then I don't know how many key players from the other schools are seniors, and since you have to be a senior to play, that could have been part of the decision.  Then again, Don De Waard is one of the coaches.   ;)  Congratulations to all!

From the Central write-up:  Chosen were Kurtis Brondyke (senior, Clinton), a 6-foot-4, 195-pound punter/kicker/wide receiver, Austin Hill (senior, Carroll, Kuemper Catholic HS), Jordan Leuschen (senior, Decorah), a 6-5, 235-pound tight end, Lee Schroeder (senior, Malcom, Montezuma HS), a 6-5, 295-pound offensive tackle and Shane Wong (senior, Pleasant Hill,  Southeast Polk HS), a 6-1, 230-pound defensive end.  Other Iowa players on the squad include Loras College defensive back Kile Beaver of North Liberty and Wartburg College linebacker Blake Suckow of West Union and offensive tackle Spencer Herkelman of Maquoketa.

Congratulations to all the young men who have been named to the squad.  Jr played in this game last year and had a great experience.  Representing the USA is a big deal.

One note for these kids to remember, the team you will be playing is not governed by the same NCAA rules that limit eligibility in the USA.  There were former NFL camp hands on the Mexican "University" team, and make no mistake they can play some real American football.

Good Luck boys and have the time of your life!   :)

Jr's first year coaching (TE Coach) results in the CIF-San Diego Section Division 1 Championship.  A whole lotta fun seeing him and Rev. 3 out on the field at Qualcomm Stadium  :)

You have to be a senior and you have to pay your own way, too, which limits things even more.

Congrats on the win! I'm still a little sour about Oceanside's continued success and El Camino's fall off the face of the earth.

I'm told Coe's Tyler Takes was selected to play in the game as well, but his brother is getting married that day and elected to attend the wedding instead.

Congratulations are in order to SpeedKills8 and to AZDutchman for finishing 1-2 in the IIAC group.  A lot of others fell by the wayside along the way.

I'll get the ESPN Bowl Mania up in the next day or two.
