Wartknight... did you attend East High through the "mythical" years?  If so, you more than likely know my dad and uncles.  Did you know the 3 brothers from Cutler St. (Frank '69, Ken '71 and Scott '73 (I think))?  They've told me stories of the glory days... I'm just glad that I never had to endure an 0-fer season while I graced the Halls of Troy.  Aldrich has them looking in the right direction again, at least... the movement will follow!

I was later than that. Actually was there in attendance with Alphie & the late Reggie Roby. Those "mythical" days were Iowa's version of Friday Night Lights. Since I was witness to all of the games in person, I have some fond & unbelieveable stories & memories from those games/times.

The goal was to hit four good teams ...

Well 3 of 4 ain't bad.

Trying to be diplomatic there CK ... although Cornell put together a heck of a drive when I was there watching.

I guess that was the only one.

I think Wartburg is a very good candidate for a Pool C bid.  I know from the way they choose the teams there are 5 AQ's in the West with 3 at large.  I alson know that the NCAA does not have to take them from the West , but we all know that travel distance and money are a factor.  That makes Wartburg very attractive as they can go either to ST johns, UWW, St Norbert's easily on a bus trip.  Same with Central (don't want to sound like they have things wrapped up with three games to go)  I think with one 10-0 team or two 9-1 teams the IIAC will get two invites just like last year.  To have a cellar dwellar (sorry Luther)  in the top offenses in the nation and yet winless in the conference has to speak for the quaility of the conference, not to mention a 2 loss Coe team that has been ranked all year till last week.

Well,
I agree, even though most of the stuff you mention above is not official committee criteria. I'm almost certain they pick the 32 teams first (11 to choose, 21 Automatic) and then take geography into account. In other words, Wartburg's location wouldn't help them get into the show, just gives them a lot of options once they are in.

So far, they are grading out well on primary criteria like QoWI. What I can't figure is if you want Coe to beat Central or not.

On one hand, a Coe win helps the Wartburg strength of schedule. On the other hand, a 9-1 team with an OT loss to a 10-0 league champion is the textbook Pool C case and should be no-brainer.

Congratulations to the Coe volleyball team on their exciting 3-2 victory over Central tonight in Eby Fieldhouse. Why do I mention volleyball on a football chat board? Other than the fact that these ladies are deserving of recognition as they continue to raise the bar in their sport, I noticed an eerie coincedence this Halloween night.

Consider the conference result from Coe's home volleyball schedule and the ensuing home football games against the same school:
Sept. 9 -- volleyball beat BV 3-0. Sept. 23 -- football beat BV 41-17.
Sept. 26 -- volleyball lost to Loras 0-3. Sept. 30 -- football lost to Loras 30-32.
Oct. 18 -- volleyball lost to Wartburg 1-3. Oct. 21 -- football lost to Wartburg 7-10.
Oct. 31 -- volleyball beat Central 3-2. Nov. 4 -- we shall see.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

I also recieved an email from the Simpson SID before when I complained on the basketball board about how uninspiring of basketball venue they had and how their PA announcer was screaming into the microphone.

Man, I feel left out.  I'm sure I commented on the field once or twice...but no e-mail for me. :'(

Storm-what?

Congrats to Coe on the volleyball win! It just happened to help Simpson edge out Central for the #1 seed and hosting the conference tournament! Which is big, since the team plays much better at home.

I can't speak for the SID at Simpson, but most of the Simpson community, athletes, alums and employees have a lot of pride for the campus. So, it's natural to want to defend your school. I just hope it is done respectfully.

I've had negative comments for pretty much every school in the IIAC at some point in my posting "career". Sid from Simpson is the only one I've ever got an email from.

Or maybe he's spending too much time on this board and taking the posts too seriously? I'm a proud SC alum, but I don't feel the need to email other posters about comments made on this board.

Dsquared

Maybe the athletic program at Simpson is so meager, he has enough time on his hands to read every post on every IIAC board out there, then has time to respond to each negative comment individually.  I bet that Mark Adkins has a full enough plate that he would possibly be beaten by Willis if he wasted his time reading message boards

On with the picks!!

Wartburg over Cornell
UD over BV
Loras over Simpson
Central over Coe--In the "ghetto" :D

Show--good luck tonight. I'll be at Hampton talking on the headsets in the box. Hope to see you in the 2nd round.

Storm-what?

Meager.... ouch! I think that's a bit steep. (Well, football is feeling a little meager this year!)  But, not going to get into debating it here. I agree, no point in taking things too personal here, everyone is looking out for their own school!

The Show

Thanks lorbec.  Which team are you helping coach?
