Best wishes to all graduatig seniors. A really nice ceremony in Waverly on Sunday even with a 25 minute speech in German. (Thank goodness for subtitles!)

BTW, it was great seeing those Championship rings!

NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Has anyone traded a ring for a tattoo yet?

I predict a WillieU post on here soon :D

As for poor college kids just looking for a little money like those OSU players...last year at the UD/Wartburg game during halftime I saw close to a dozen girls holding babies next to the W where the Wartburg players come out saying "here comes daddy"  and I sat next to Jermar Jacksons wife and their small child a few years ago at a UD/Cornell game.  Is there a large portion of married students on campus these days compared to the really old days when I was in school?  Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things...just curious.

94 days until UD kicksoff the IIAC football season against Augustana...we're under 100 days until kickoff!!!

Priceless!
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

^^ Perfect. Then you'd qualify for a conference championship game.

Now, what to name the divisions...

East & West too generic
Mississippi & Missouri too 'stately'
Sauk & Sioux too non-PC
Almost in Chicago & Almost in Omaha?!? ...nevermind

Corn & Soybean

... I think we may have a winner.

Corn: (rival)
Northwestern (Central)
Dordt (Loras)
Morningside (Coe)
Briar Cliff (DQ)
Storm Lake (Simpson)
Wartburg (Luther)

Soybean:
Central
Coe
DQ
Loras
Luther
Simpson

SAINTS
Northwestern
Dordt
Central
Loras
Wartburg
Luther

SINNERS

Dubuque
Buena Vista
Coe

Hmmmmmmmmm.  That will require further theological reflection!

3 Presbyterian schools in the conference...all 3 listed on the sinner side :D

I am well aware of Dubuque and their party reputation...even participated in that culture while there...but, UD is the only conference school that also has a theological seminary...so I propose UD swap places with Wartburg, we all know those knights like to have a good time :P

Then again, maybe it's a good thing to be seperated from Loras...and who has more fun?  Sinners or Saints???

Sporting News 2011 College Football issue is out.  Pre-season D3 rankings are:

5.  Mary Hardin-Baylor
6.  Linfield
7.  North Central
8.  Wittenberg
9.  St. John's (MN)
10.  Montclair St.

Other mid-west teams of interest:

Interesting development in IIAC womens basketball.  I of course think it is a big advancement, but in reality it is probably a lateral move.  I hope Coach Oakland enjoys some conference titles and NCAA tournament success while at Wartburg.

WAVERLY (IOWA) - Wartburg College Director of Athletics Rick Willis and head women's basketball coach Bob Amsberry have announced that Nate Oakland has been named assistant coach.

Oakland, who previously served as an assistant on staffs at the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Minnesota at Morris and Coe, fills the opening left by former assistant coach Aaron Nester who was named head coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga., in early May. During his recent stop at Coe from June 2009-2011, he helped guide the Kohawks to back-to-back Iowa Conference co-championships and an IIAC tourney title and NCAA Division III Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.

IIAC sighting at the Vinton Palace Theater tonight.  Kid sweeping up the spilled popcorn had a Simpson College Athletics shirt on.  Hopefully this is his summer job and not an indication of the job opportunities awaiting Simpson graduates (rim shot)  ;)

NAIA sighting also at the theater tonight as the kid working the popcorn stand had a Culver-Stockton shirt on.  Why any good Iowa kid would want to slum it up in Missouri for college is beyond me...says the Missouri native.

That's all I've got...just happy we are under 100 days until 2011 kick off!!!

This is not an attempt to out do doolittledog.

I left the house this morning to have breakfast with my coffee group.  On my way downtown there were a bunch of flashing lights, trucks and city crew at an intersection down by the Heinz plant.  As I drove by, a guy wearing a Loras t-shirt was being lowered into the sewer.

My first thought is that the Loras guy was going into the sewer to rescue some Wartburg guy who stumbled in last night, or the stranded pet of Dubuque co-ed.   ;)   :D   ;D
