Arizona went to the D1, D2...D6 format for the high school divisions. Myself, I think this was a complete wrong way to go??
Have you ever heard of this? or is the heat getting to their minds?  :o

Would someone fill me in on the applaud and smite = karma choice here.

I smited someone once and that was the Central Super Fan that had the split personality, played with two broken arms, one broken leg and was praised by the whole Pella community. I usually spend a little time going back a couple pages applauding fans from all teams (except Warthog. just kidding).

My Karma goes up and down like a yo yo. Is it because I just talked about the weather, I'm a Central fan or just a thorn in some ones side?

Just curious?  ???

You're up early in AZ!!!  Applaud/Smite used to get talked about alot on here.  In the old days people got smited left and right.  It could be for something like you noted...talking about something other than football.  You could get smited if you said something like "I think Simpson gets monkey stomped by Luther next week"  It got so weird I just automatically started giving +k to anyone that posted on the page I happened to be on.  I think that has mostly gone away.  I still +k most everyone if I remember to do it but I don't really notice if people are going up or down.  Most people on here have positive k now, where in the past pretty much EVERYONE on here had negative...except Dutchie...she had like +200k when everyone else had -20 or so.  She's always been a fan favorite on here ;D

So, if UD beats Central this year...for what would be the 1st time since 1987...you would probably find me spreading +k to everyone because I would be in such a great mood.  I rarely throw out negative...you could call me ugly, so's my momma, and then kick my dog and I probably wouldn't -k you...but maybe that's just me.  (Go on the MIAC board and you will probably find your Karma dropping...those guys like to do that ;) )

Thanks for filling in the gap. My karma just went down again? Maybe the Central Super Fan's ears were ringing and he read the post?

Sometimes people smite posters for talking/complaining about karma. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

116 listed on the UD roster

7   - Seniors

29 - Sophomores
64 - Freshmen

36 - Illinios
34 - Wisconsin
25 - Iowa
6  -  Florida
2  -  Alabama
2  -  Japan
2  -  Texas
1  -  Alaska
1  -  Arizona

1  -  Ohio
1  -  Ontario

The senior class are the last of the Brautigam hold overs.  Zweifel got a late start on what is the junior class right now.  With more continuity I would think UD will stop seeing freshmen classes approaching 70 kids.  Nice to have the bodies on campus but I would think freshmen classes around 50 would be pretty nice.  Give me about 12 each from Iowa/Illinois/Wisconsin...give me about 3 each from CA/TX/FL...and about 10-15 from anywhere elseville and that is a pretty good core of recruits...if they can actually play football that is.

Luther plays our old conference member William Penn the 2nd week of the season.  Billie Penn opened up their season this week with a 42-7 win over another old IIAC team Iowa Wesleyan.  Coe beat Iowa Wesleyan last season 48-21.  This sounds like Luther will have their hands full with the Statesmen.  Good luck to the Norse, I like to see the IIAC do well in our non-con games.

At this point, I'm happy for Dubuque to be considered an "also ran" and not a "bottom feeder"  ;D  Hopefully, starting with this season, Dubuque will typically be considered a "contender"

Well said Doolittle.  I've lived long enough to see my beloved Knights go through that metamorphous.  I remember the days when we wished Wartburg could be as good as Luther or Wm Penn or Dubuque.  Wartburg hasn't been a bottom feeder for long periods of time, but after it happened the last time it took a few years of building to leave that group.  Then a lengthy stretch of also ran status.  Now being in the contender group is enjoyable.  I am often bothered by Knight fans who have come along in the last fifteen years or so who don't appreciate the fact that it hasn't always been this way.  Some of them assume we have always been on the top looking down.  Not so, over time the Knights have been up and down the ladder.

If they can't play Zweifel won't recruit them.  Would you say the number of Wisconsin and Illinois athletes is consistent with past years or are the numbers increasing with Zweifel's recruiting?  I'm wondering if it's typical to have more Illinois and Wisconsin athletes than those from Iowa itself.  Or has Dubuque's location always resulted in larger numbers from Illinois and Wisconsin?

Dubuque has always had good numbers of Illinois kids, no matter who the coach was.  Zweifel is responsible for the big increase of Wisconsin kids.  The UD administration wanted a coach that could recruit well out of Iowa/Illinois/Wisconsin and Zweifel is certainly doing that.  With Dubuque being on the Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois border, we have never had the Iowa kids in numbers like the other IIAC schools.  I would be happy with an even mix from those 3 states and then pick up some talent from a good cross section of the country.

Hey warthog, it looks like I have a better than 50% chance of making it to Augustana for the UD game Thursday.  I should be there with a UD friend of mine and either my uncle or an old high school friend that lives in town here.  We'll figure out this week where to meet up.

I hope you can make it.  My mother never taught me the secret Spartan handshake.  Hopefully my new royal blue shirt will be all I need to blend in with UD crowd for the evening.

Thanks for the response doolittle and good luck to the Spartans this year.  I'll be keeping track of how things go this year.

Super!  I think if the Norse athletic department wanted to start with the Oles, a stronger Billy Penn, and Central, they should have hired Zweifel instead of passing on him.  I think the Norse have been solid in coaching and development over the past few years, but Zweifel and the Spartans are running circles around the Norse in recruiting (or so it appears).

Hopefully Iowa Wesleyan is down a bit.

This is a big week for Luther.  Hopefully they can break the Groundhog Day feeling in a positive way.  They also could be looking at 0-3 and a bad way to snap the streak of 5-5 seasons.
