If I remember correctly, phred is an Iowa native that has lived in Minny for some time now.  Mostly a MIAC follower but a D3 fan in general so he likes to look in on us, the WIAC, and the CCIW on occasion.

I dusted off the "fan base" listing from last year.  It needs some up-dating I think.  I'll give it a few weeks to see who has disappeared from our midst ... and who needs to be added ... like Phred or Idaho Soccer.  With a couple of exceptions, everyone on the list is a quality person ... right?

Just so people here understand, Phred is not a Wartburg fan.  In looking back through his posts it is hard to tell where he lines up.

I was scratching my head on this one?  :o

I have to admit that I've been backing more IIAC teams since I came on here,
but I don't think you'll catch me putting out a....Go Orange!  ???

I am not a big football fan (Ok in a way I am a big football fan 6'3" 305 lbs.).  I have been watching for IIAC scores and results since coming to this site from the women's bastketall site.  I find the spirit and banter on this site humorous and entertaining if NOT intellectually stimulating.

Belated congratulations to all of the winners and better luck next time, unless you are Luther this week, to those that lost.  I won't be able to post as much this year I'm afraid.  Like DF1, I am in a new job where I actually have to work, too.  What kind of trend is that???  Get all the Dutch fans in jobs where we have to work and it will sound like we don't have any faith in our Dutch.

But to be fair, I'm not sure from just hearing the radio report that I felt too good about this year's Dutch team after last week's game against UWO with 5 TO's.  At the start of the game Saturday, I was afraid it was going to be a repeat of the week before.  It was not a good start, although not as horrific as the first 5 minutes against UWO.  As the game progressed, you could see the Central team grow in confidence and ability.  Those two goal line stands by the defense were amazing, even though they did finally score on the 4th down during the second one at the end of the game.  Like other Dutch fans, I agree we need more production out of Ross Doerhmann.  The line needs to improve, but we need a ball carrier other than Snead who can get extra yards after the first hit.  That said, I saw some real nice potential in FR Josh Osborn.  It's good to have that option on the sidelines and it will give Doerhmann more motivation as well.  It's hard to know what to think of the Dutch given the combined record of the teams they have played, even though they are quality teams, and I guess you can't fault UWO if they played Mount and lost.

Certainly, being the defending champ and undefeated, WB is the team to beat.  Coe being 0-2 and Boyle throwing INT's surprises me.  I thought they would lose in Texas against a very quality team after a long trip, but 2 in a row is a real surprise.  I still have to believe they will be a contender.  I believe in Coach Mac and his ability to bring along the inexperienced players, so I have to put Central in the contender group.  Plus I am a Dutch fan from way back and it just isn't in the Dutch to not be a contender.  I also think UD could be a possible contender, or at worst, the top of the pretenders, unless Central falls to that position.  My pick for rear-ender this year is BV, following closely behind Cornell.  I do think Cornell will be much improved, I was impressed with the Coach and what he accomplished at UD and think he can do the same for Cornell, too bad they are leaving the conference after this year.  It would have been fun to see how much improved they could become in the IIAC and their new/old conference is just not at the same level.  All the others will fill out the pretenders in one way or another, probably Simpson toward the bottom of that group or down to the rear-enders.

Oh, and reminding you all that I am a woman, that picture on page 71 of Central's program showing a shirtless Nate Snead flipping a tractor tire!   Let's just say his wife is one lucky young lady!   :P

Will the current success at Cornell bring ShowMe out of retirement  ;D?

Give Coach B some credit for early success in rebuilding the Cornell program.  I don't know the last time when the Rams were 2-0.  But keep in mind ... the combined record of Cornell's opposition thus far 0-4 ... and the Rams have given up 49 points in their first two games.  They  get a bye this week and their next game will be BV in Storm Lake.  That should tell us something.

The Rams went 2-0 on '06 and '07, 1-1 in '09, and 0-2 in '08, '10

In '06 and '07 they played Northwestern and Alma
In '08 and '09 they played Grinnell and Carlton
In '10 they played North Central and Macalester

On the whole, those pair of games seem to be more challenging than the Olivet, Macalester slate in '11.  But as the saying goes, you gotta beat thems that they put in front of you and I give credit to Coach B for guiding the Rams to 2 W's.  It is easier to lose than to win.

The Bye Week is welcome and Brautigam the player was seen on crutches at the end of the game...being one of their top defenders, his absence would be unfortunate for the start of the final IIAC campaign and a fair chance at a potentially beatable BV.

I've stated that I am not keen on the MWC move for Cornell.  I understand it, I agree with their logic, and I support it, but I see this the same as when Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Baltimore went to the AFC after the AFL-NFL merger...it's just a step down and I feel like any accomplishments we achieve subsequent will be slightly less meaningful - from a football perspective.

That said, Cornell travels to BV next week with hope springing eternal for IIAC success, flush with an almost squeaky clean 2-0 record.  BV will hopefully have been tenderized even further by the Kaniggets, allowing my Rams an opportunity for their first IIAC road win since I don't even know.

It will be interesting since my read shows the 2 more winnable games, BV and Simpson, are roadies.  The 3rd best Op comes as Loras returns to Ash Park, the scene of the '09 slumpbuster, where dem Rams look to post another W at the Duhawks expense.

Anything else, as Coach Finstock puts it, is cream cheese.

Greetings from Oregon to my Iowa friends! I'm late getting on the board this year, as Linfield had our first game just yesterday. We're a little slower out here in the uncivilized part of the west.
I see the Warts are on the top of the heap, but who lit a fire under Cornell? Geez.
And where's Dutchie? In the last few pages, I see Warty, doolittle and most of the other regulars, but no Dutchie.

Here I am....long time reader, first time poster.... (wait, that isn't right....)  :)

Truth be told, I recently started a new job, and have been crazy busy - get this - actually working! Weird, huh? How's Linfield going to do this season? I need to get out there to see another game....

Congrats on the new job. Employment is a good thing.

Yes, you do need to get out here for another game. It's past time.

We are hoping for a good season this year, but you know us. We don't look past the next opponent. The IIAC is off to a strange start this year, with Central 1-1 and Cornell 2-0.

Good luck to all you Iowa folks.

Decisions - decisions - decisions,  I'm leaving this one up to the posters on the board.

Today was like Christmas.  I received a package postmarked from Dubuque.  The box contained a UD royal blue cap with the word TEAM embossed across the front.  Grandma Warthog is looking down from heaven and smiling broadly.  One of her kids actually owns some Spartan gear!

So what do I do?  Should I wear the cap to the Wartburg/BV game this Saturday or should I save the newness for the UD/Wartburg game on October 8th?

You make the call.
