OK Dubuque fans, the Knights have done their job to get you an unshared conference title.  Next week is up to the Spartans.

I really am not picking you apart here warthog.  But do teams really hate a shared title?  Would Central rather say they have 16 titles instead of of 30?  Would Coe fans rather say they have no IIAC titles instead of the 3 shared titles they earned the past decade?

All that said...I really really really really want an outright title next weekend for my Spartans.  I don't want to think of the tie-break possibilities if we end up with a 4 way title >:(

What a great way for Wartburg's seniors to end their home career. Hopefully they keep the momentum through the rest of the season.

As for all the Dutch posters and all the jokes posted in the last few days; I'll hope you'll excuse me for saving my laughing until tonight.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

it was pretty cool to be there. Surprised more people weren't there. Mike seems like a nice, down-to-earth kid. Another great rep for D3.

about the cameras, they have a high angle but the director has to use it.

I think most players, fans, and coaches would prefer an outright title and of course the same people would prefer a shared title to no title. I never said anyone "hated" a shared title.  Put down the Jack Daniels, you are imagining things. Finally, yes it makes a difference when it comes to who may or may not make the playoffs.  If your team wins a title outright they don't have to worry that they may end up on the sidelines when playoff pairings are announced.

I'm writing a little late because I watched the end of the Iowa State/Texas Tech game when we got home.  All the way home I listened to the radio as Hawkeye fans bitched and complained that the Hawks were so much better than Minnesota & Iowa State, but the Gophers and the Cyclones put all their effort into playing Iowa.  I was switching back and forth between the Hawk call in show and the Cyclone game.  I'm thinking, "Don't you people pay attention? The Cyclones are crushing the team that beat the #3 team in the nation last week."  Believe me Hawkeye fans, the Cyclones fans in your neighborhood would rather lose to Iowa and have an 8-3 record than to beat Iowa and have a 3-8 record.  I simply believe the Cyclones' schedule after the Iowa game is in most cases tougher than the Hawkeye's schedule.  Translation: From top to bottom the Big 12 has been tougher than the Big 10.  The loss of Nebraska and Texas A&M may change that.

Minnesota is one of the worst teams in the FBS. It'd be a great game if they played against Kansas  :P. And Iowa just lost to them  :o Talent wise, Iowa's probably a better team. But talent doesn't mean you can just show up and roll over a team. Ask Oklahoma how that worked against a solid Texas Tech team...or ask TT how that worked last night! You have to respect every opponent.

As far as MN and IaSt investing a lot of energy into their game versus Iowa, isn't that exactly what you do in a rivalry?!? Claiming the other teams care more about the game is an indictment against your team, not your opponent.

I definitely agree the cyclones have faced tougher competition since their H2H with Iowa. As for what that says about the relative strength of the Big 12 v. the Big 10, hard to say at this point. Keep in mind Iowa State is playing a round robin schedule in the Big 12 this year, so they play every big dog the conference has. So I'll definitely agree the cyclones have the tougher schedule, but it's at least in part due to conference structure. Iowa on the other hand has only played (and lost to) Penn State so far. They've still got Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska and don't have to face Wisconsin or Ohio State (who is clicking now that their suspended tattoo lovers are back on the field).

My dad and I spent last night flipping back and forth between two incredible games in Stanford/USC and Wisconsin/OSU and kept watching the ticker list the expanding gap in the Tech/ISU game. It was a really fun day for football on Saturday!

It wasn't Jack Daniels...I was drinking beer after having about a million little ones run around our place for about 6-8 hours yesterday.  Though it was a lot of fun, I needed some drinks to calm my nerves after watching over all of them for that long.  The beer clouded my posting judgement ;)

After reading your post my mind went racing back to 2004 last night when an Ohio St fan told me that the little guys like Iowa and Wisconsin only share titles with the big boys like OSU and Michigan and to get any respect the Iowa's and Wisconsins of the world need to win an outright title instead of sneaking in with a tie against the big dogs.  Then when I told him that (at that time) Iowa had a more recent outright Big Ten title (1985) than OSU had (1984) he got really mad.  My alcohol level had me reading that you were saying Dubuque needed an outright title to make it better.  A sober me would have understood your post better ;D

Congratulations to the Rams for getting a win at home. The video feed left something to be desired but I'm thankful that they have the option for the couch potato in me. I think Ash Park summed it all up. Enjoy the win and carry the momentum into next game.

Are there any Connor brothers left to recruit to come to Cornell?

CaliRamRL6

HA! It only took 6 years to become a starter.

a) you don't have the most talented player on the field there

b) since you don't have him, it'd probably be nice to stop him - which Iowa didn't do all second half....

Proud of you Cali!

The Connor brothers did have a good game yesterday for sure. It was pretty cool to witness when the younger of the two scored his TD and was a little banged up that Thomas was the first one there to congratulate him then help him off the field.

Klompen

A former Wartburg Knight was flying home from a mission trip and in the seat beside him was a young girl traveling to the U.S. to join her mother.  The young girl said to the former Knight, sir, I bought my mother a shiny new hair dryer and I fear that I don't have sufficient money to pay for the declared value in customs.  Would you be so kind as to carry it in for me?  The young man thought about and, being a good Lutheran felt sorry for the young woman.  He said, "yes, I will carry it  through customs for you, I lost a ton of weight on my mission trip and can hide it in my pants, but if asked I cannot lie.".  She understood and thanked him for his help.  In customs, the man was asked if he had anything to declare.  He replied, "From my head to my waist, I have nothing to declare.  The intelligent former Central Dutch player knew that sounded suspicious, so he asked, "Sir, do you have anything to declare from your waist down?"  The former Knight said, "Yes, I have a magnificent instrument meant to be used on a woman to make her feel beautiful, but it has never been touched and is completely unused."  The Central Dutch customs agent just laughed, and hollered out to the others, "It's another Knight, let the pitiful man through!"

I can still laugh at the Knights, the game, not so much.   ;)

You lost me at "former Knight on a mission trip"  ;D

Maybe I should just head down to Cedar Rapids now...I'm a bit anxious for the Coe/Dubuque game to get under way!!!

a) I'm not an Iowa fan.

b) I'd take Coker and McNutt over Marqueis "Mr. Inconsistent" Gray any day (hey, that rhymes!  ;D)

c) Football's a team game, so even if Gray is the best player (which his grossly inconsistent play doesn't make clear) I'd still lean towards Iowa having more talent. You know, because they haven't lost to any FCS schools yet this year  ;)

d) Like I said, talent doesn't guarantee a win, you still need to show up to play.

e) Go Big Red!  ;D
