Storm-what?

But Simpson is still the winner!  :P
I can see why Coe got chosen over Central for sure.

Storm-what?

I am suprised Simpson women didn't get an at large bid for soccer. Unefeated in the conference, lost it double OT to Loras. But, I don't know much about those "grass fairies" as a friend of mine calls them, so, maybe it makes sense.

Just in case anyone missed it...

Vance Schuring
Rushing: 36 carries - 169 yards; One TD.
Receiving: 2 catches - 5 yards. No TDs.
Passing 1-for-1; 17 yards. One TD.

Ashton Northern
Rushing: 16 carries - 55 yards; No TDs.
Receiving: 4 catches - 20 yards; One TD.

Whoever said that the IIAC MVP would be decided in the Coe/Central game was right. It was.

Would somebody PLEASE explain to me how COE COLLEGE is in the NCAA volleyball tournament field?  PLEASE!!!!  Or please tell me that iowaconference.com screwed up!!!
The Kohawk volleyball team is 26-7, overall, tops in the IIAC. Along the way, they beat the defending national champs twice and Central and Simpson each once. They're ranked fourth in the central region, ahead of #5 Simpson and #6 Central. That's how.

Good analysis Charlie.  Come on DD, do a little research before you ask a question like that.  Coe was pretty much a lock as long as they didn't get beat in the first round of the conf. tourney since they have a pretty good regional resume (as Charlie pointed out).  Simpson got a 2 seed and Coe a 4.  Good luck to all IIAC teams in the postseaon.

The Coe-Central game was also the 5th OT game of the year.

Central was involved in three of them and went 3-0 (Wartburg, Luther, and Coe).

Wartburg (Central, B.V.) and B.V. (Luther, Wartburg) went 1-1 in such games.

Luther was 0-2 (Central, B.V.), while Coe was 0-1 (Central).

Congrats to the Dutch, as usual!

After watching the Iowa debacle I saw the end of the 4th quarter and both overtimes at Coe.  The playing surface is in pretty bad shape.  The practice field looks like it is the only practice field that Coe uses and there is almost no grass left on it.  It was nice to see Tekippe playing again as an injury would have been a bad way for his college career to end.

If his college eligibility ever runs out. :)

I was just wondering how Central didn't make it in... they beat the defending national champs once, and split with Coe... would a split against Simpson in the season series have garnered them a tourney bid?  24-10, 6-2 is nothing to brush off.....

Anyway, good luck to all teams in the post-season!  Thanks alot for giving me the 3rd degree Tret.  Anyone using your ticket for Saturday's game?

Big Willie -- welcome back to the board! Have you been lurking all season??

Fantastic showing by both the Dutch and the Kohawks this Saturday. I'm glad to see that Central's record remains unblemished, hopefully strengthening their post season case.

WH, your nights should be freed up, now that you're done with the HS season -- you'll have to come out for a restorative beverage with me and my Orange Clad Coworker one of these days.... Loser of the Pick 'Em buys the first round. :)

DD-
Since Central was ranked the lowest out of Coe, Simpson, and Central in the region at 6, they needed to get the automatic bid in order to make it.  Very rarely does a conference get 3 teams in the post season, just like football.  Not sure what made Coe and Simpson's regional resumes better than Central's...obviously not much since they are 4, 5 and 6 in the region.  Also, the final destination of my ticket for Saturday is contigent upon several things...we'll see how things go.

Back to football...sounds like the Knights need a little help to get into the playoffs...a little surprising considering their only loss is in overtime to the #10 team in the nation.  They can't overlook UD on Saturday as they have the talent to beat anyone in the conference.  Take care of business and I see them in the playoffs.  Of course, all this talk about Wartburg in the playoffs is taking for granted the fact the Central beats Simpson on Saturday....does the 'burg have a chance if the Storm pulls the upset of the year?

Check out Lance's page he made up... it hurts WB worst if Simpson loses that if Central loses...

Just checked out the page...makes sense.  I was just thinking of the one quality loss they have, not the quality wins.  Does the selection committee take into account who you lost to?  If not, you are better off losing to an 1-9 team and beating a 9-1 team rather than vice versa.

Thanks for the congrats on Hope's MIAA title and AQ.  Wishing your Central team the best this weekend.  Probably a slim chance for a Central/Hope rematch in the playoffs, but it would be neat to see.  Best regards.

Hey Guys, New to posting but Im a long time reader. Just thought I should start to throw my 2 cents aound sooner or later. Great game in CR on Saturday, what everyone expected and some! Field conditions were not great and I think that hampered Centrals ability to cover some of the quick Coe receivers.

As far as the MVP talk goes I would think its a competition between Schuring and Hammes. Without those players their respective teams are not where they are in the standings now.

One last thougth before I go. Has anyone else checked out the QOWI?? Central at #1 this week! Not only does that say something for the Dutch but also for the IIAC as well I would assume. Scheduling tough non-conference opponents is a good thing I believe. Anyways thats it for now, catch ya on the flip side.

New to IIAC Football .. my son is a freshman football player at Wartburg.  But if someone would be kind enough to "educate me" on the Division III football playoffs, it would be much appreciated.  For example, what are the differences between "Pool A, Pool B, Pool C"?  What does the acronyms stand for that I've been reading recently on these posts regarding potential football play off teams?  Who selects teams to play in D3 playoffs?  Any information is appreciated.

DutchFan2004

Buckweat,

If you go to FAQ's there is a whole page on the playoffs.

Pool A  They are the automatice qualifiers from the conferences.

Pool B  They are Independents and conference champs from conferences that are to small to have an AQ

Pool C  Everyone else deserving of a playoff spot.  (one and two loss teams, runners up to conference champs or one or loss independent small conference schools)

Hope that helps.  The pool B and C bids are invitations and a selection commitee chooses them.

There is a whole criteria list that they follow

Buckwheat, Welcome to the board and welcome to the family. Hope your son has as much fun (OK maybe not quite as much fun) in his 4 years at the Burg as I did.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships
