It appears as if Loras needs to strengthen their Chemistry department  :o

I read about that and wondered about all those Loras alumni shaking their heads and trying to figure out how they could blame this on a UD student.  The worm has certainly turned in the Key City.  Suddenly it seems UD is the place to be and Loras is home to the poor cousins you don't want to admit are your relatives.

Wow, that is really low rent for how Loras likes to think of themselves.  I'm not even sure I can take too much pleasure from that news.  That place is going into the dumpster in a hurry.

Of course, the same day the Telegraph-Herald has a story about Loras students with a meth lab in their dorms, the paper ran a story about UD Career Services hosting an Etiquette Dinner for students and business leaders!!!

Record highs down here this week!!   8-)

The team had the day off wednesday so we went down to Clearwater beach, it was awesome!!  ::)
Was in Clearwater in June a few years back - it is awesome; & was pretty toasty then!!
Did your grill out & tailgate on the beach?

As we occasionally stray from football on this page ... here is an interesting slide-show on the Wartburg - Augsburg wrestling rivalry from today's New York Times.

That was a great article.  I wonder if enough time has passed now that it is more than just the coaches that brought the program to prominence.  Those schools will have such a reputation they will be able to continue their national championship ways even after the coaches that brought them to that level leave the program.

The accompianing article is good also:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/05/sports/colleges-locked-in-struggle-for-wrestling-supremacy.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1

It is a nice article, but it is a bit of a cliche' for a New York newspaper to say an Iowa town of 9,000 residents is proud of its stoplights.  Other than that and the shameless advertising for Joe's Knighthawk, it was nice for D3 athletics to get some press.

It other wrestling news, former assistant coach Mitchell from Wartburg, now head coach at Grandview won the NAIA national championship.

I was posting this to show the most recent NCAA ratings had the Wartburg Women's Indoor Track team rated #1.  Probably of greater interest is the high rankings of so many WIAC schools in both polls.  There must be quite a track & field tradition up there.

This just in.  Just got an email that Al Dorenkamp is leaving as AD at Central at the end of the year.  This will be a big loss.  Al was very good at his job.  I hope they can fill it with the quality of the person Al is.

Mr Dorenkamp was a Central grad...as was his wife who is also retiring from Central.  Do you think Central will hire from within again?

And if you tell me your son is coming back to become AD and coach football I will have to be medicated after thinking about that 2007 game again ;D

I think the lure of smelling hot chocolate in the air every morning and being able to cross the street to watch Wartburg athletics will bring Dorenkamps back to Waverly.  :)

Does anyone know anything about this?  Aren't semi-pro teams for guys out of school who want to keep playing just for fun?  No one expects to make any money off of it do they?

"The Pella Knights are holding open tryouts this weekend. The semi-professional football team moved to Pella this year, and will play on Saturday nights. Pella Knights Head Coach Steve Miller tells KNIA/KRLS News that they invite everyone interested to come try out. The open tryouts are Sunday at the PAC Center on the William Penn Campus in Oskaloosa from 5:00 to 9:00. Participants must pay a $20 registration fee, and be 18 or older."
