DuHawks are the obvious pre-season #1 for the IIAC. Heard they have some high caliber recruits coming in.

No doubt Duhawk football takes the conference. I guess they have Tom Brady's nephew throwing the ball around for them??

I didnt want to break the news first, but yes the rumors are true.  Get ready IIAC, tom brady's nephew will be slinging the old pig spin around in dubuque this year.  Going to state this year

The top 5 teams in the conference last year had winning records and none of the top 5 lost to a team with a losing record.

7 of the 10 games between these teams were won by single digits.

Simpson  38-37 Wartburg
Coe        27-24 Wartburg
Central    38-35 Coe
Wartburg 42-39 Dubuque
Wartburg 20-13 Central
Dubuque  49-42 Coe
Coe         34-26 Simpson
Dubuque   42-21 Simpson
Central     37-14 Simpson
Dubuque   56-28 Central

Central had wins by 3 points and 23 points to go with losses by 7 points and 28 points
Coe had wins by 3 points and 8 points to go with losses by 3 points and 7 points
Dubuque had wins by 7 points, 21 points, and 28 points, with a loss by 3 points
Simpson had a 1 point win and losses by 8 points, 21 points and 23 points
Wartburg had a 3 point win and a 7 point win to go with losses by 1 point and 3 points

As 5WOL noted earlier...teams all-conference players returning vs graduated

Central   - 2 returning vs 9 that graduated
Coe       - 6 returning vs 3 that graduated
Dubuque - 5 returning vs 6 that graduated
Simpson  - 6 returning vs 5 that graduated
Wartburg - 5 returning vs 8 that graduated

What will we see this year???

It is probably just wishful thinking, but I hope the investigation the Paterno family is supposedly funding will find something positive about JoPa's actions during the Penn State Sandusky situation.  I find it hard to believe Coach Paterno could have or would have protected Sandusky for those many years.  JoPa got Sandusky off his staff, perhaps he mistakenly and foolishly thought he had done his job and it was now someone else's problem.  Which brings up an interesting point.  If Sandusky wasn't on the football staff,  but rather used Penn State facilities for his foundation, why aren't the penalties for the entire Penn State Athletic Department, including Cale Sanderson's wrestling team?

I'd be a little suspect of the findings of any 'investigation' the Paterno family funds. And while you may find it hard to believe, I know I sure did initially, the evidence is starting to pile up. And getting him off the staff was far from sufficient, but the real problem is that he attempted to cover up the incident. That's where he goes from out of touch old ball coach to a part of the problem and bearer of responsibility for the fact that the evil continued unpunished and unexposed for all those years.

All around, a very sad state of affairs.

I agree with what you say.  JoPa could have / should have done more.

Yet, Sandusky was removed from the football staff.  Why then was this just a football problem?  Why wasn't the whole athletic department condemned?

First of all, congrats Warthog. Be sure they mix some jungle juice in with his formula. You can't start getting ready to be a Knight too soon! :D

As far as Penn State/JoePa:Up until a couple of years ago Penn State athletics meant football. I think they punished the right people/departments. It will take decades for them to fully recover from these sanctions,as it should. Letting current and future players opt out of the program without penalty minimizes the impact on them. Possibly the NCAA could allow the upperclassmen to transfer and not use up a scholarship on the team they transfer to.

The bottom line is that it won't make things right, but it will show that enabling a pedophile and lying about it will never be tolerated.

Of course, the breakfast of champions - creatine, two raw eggs, two envelopes of Carnation Instant Breakfast, ice cream, some whey protein mix, a multi-vitamin, and top it off with whole milk.  Mix it up in the blender and chug it down.  Follow that up with a couple bottles of Gatorade and you're ready to go.
