Sightings of a new Wartburg football player in Waverly this morning.  This one is a DE.  Word is he will be quite an impact player for the Knights.

His name is Ben.  Coach Willis can't pencil him into the two deeps quite yet.

He was just born this morning at the Waverly Hospital and his 8.5 pound frame probably needs a little bulking up before he takes the field.

(The Warthog family grows again.)

Congrats Warthog.  Nothing better than a new little one in the family.  Hope he grows and listens to his dad.  He will do well.

DutchFan2004: Listening to his dad might be OK, but I'm sure you know the real gems of wisdom come from grandpa.

Wisdom does come with age that is true.  Hope the young men just have the smarts to absorb it.

Football question here.  My mind starts to wander during my long drives...

The half, or a game, is not supposed to end with a defensive penalty.  So, if the game is tied, with Team A attempting the game winning FG and the attempt is blocked and then scooped up by Team B, who then returns it all the way to the 5 but gets tackled before scoring a touchdown...but Team A was flagged for a penalty while Team B had the ball...is that a defensive penalty and Team B would get to play an untimed down to end the game???

A team does not get to switch positions during the play.  There would be no extra play as the ball changed hands.  The game would end.  You can not extend the game on a turnover.

I was wondering when or if Old Style was going to get brought into this topic.  I grew up drinking OS as that is all my dad had in the fridge.  In college, I learned real quick that Old Style was a hidden gem.  At parties, if the fridge or coolers were stocked, anybody grabbed what they could.  Unless it was Old Style.  Nobody would touch it.  So I rarely had to worry about my beer getting drank.  The only down fall to Old Style is that I can't get it out here in Southeast Ohio.  I did find it in Pittsburgh, but my family always stocks me up when they come and visit.  And yes, Old Style is actually pretty good.

Talk of Beer will always get my attention!  We drank copious amounts of Old Style while at Pella.  Somebody in Newton had it on constant special for some reason!  I still get nostalgic when I think of our Krausenings!

The worst beer ever had to be Huber's.  Monroe WI has to be a black eye to the Wisconsin brewing industry for producing this stuff.  Even at slo-pitch softball games we weren't thirsty enough to let that cross our lips.

And by the way - Go Dutch!

Yes, indeed, there will be a Kickoff in 2012. We were waiting for some PrestoSports work to be done before we could properly sell subscriptions.

I had the opportunity to watch the Chicago Bears training camp last Friday. When you get down to it, football practice is football practice no matter where you go. The amazing thing is the jump in talent. Just like the jump from high school to college, there is another jump just like it to the league. When you see Devin Hester put a burst on ane get a step and a half on a DB it is amazing. I'm not a Jay Cutler fan, but seeing him flick a ball 20 yards is pretty cool. It wasn't padded so there was no contact but it was still fun watching the 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 drills. Watching it with footballkid made it even better.

All this talk about beer leads me to one comment:I rarely drink beer, so I just discovered Jack Daniel's Tennesee Honey. The appropirate mixer is ice. All the buzz without all the bloat!
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

I am considering the trip yet this year - however, not sure if youngest wk wants to spend that much time in the car! Talked about it all the time when they were in Plateville, but never made it. Would be a good way to get an early fix of football.

Did you notice the quarterback wearing #4 by any chance?  That would be the WARHAWKS graduated qb Matt Blanchard.  If you did happen to notice him what did you think of him?

I did see him and he looked ok but he has a tough row to hoe. He's behind Cutler, Jason Campbell and Cade McCowan so the best he could hope for is #3 QB. His arm isn't as good as Cutler or Campbell for sure. McCowan could be beat out, but he's had more professional lives than Methusala.

I found this on the IIAC site...

The official NCAA rules shall govern the play of all games. Tie games during the regular season shall be played off according to the
NCAA "Tie breaker playoff plan."
In the case of a tie in league standings, the following will be used to determine the automatic qualifier berth in the NCAA playoffs:
Head‐to‐head competition: The head‐to‐head will be the cumulative records versus the tied teams.
When head‐to‐head does not break the tie, the team that was in the play‐offs most recently is eliminated and the criteria returns to
head‐to‐head competition.
When head‐to‐head competition and elimination of the most recent play‐off team does not break the tie, a coin flip will determine
who the automatic qualifier is. The coin flip will be conducted by the IIAC Commissioner and the Chair of the Faculty
Representatives. Other witnesses may be called to be observers, if necessary.
The tie breaker process will always return to head‐to‐head competition once a team has been eliminated by most recent NCAA
playoff competition.

So if I am reading that correctly.  If that scenario played out you would eliminate Dubuque for being the most recent playoff team after Central/Coe/Dubuque all went 1-1 against each other, and then take the head to head against Central/Coe...and Coe would be the playoff representative having beat Central head to head.

The IIAC isn't getting much love in the Top 25; but the one that counts is at the end of the season.
