The season may not be going the way I hoped, but I am still fired up for homecoming in Pella Saturday.  I don't know what kind of defense Central has been using, but it may be time for something different to try to slow down UD's passing game.  I think if The Dutch can keep the Dubuque receivers in front of them on defense, and the offense figures out their snap counts, so that they don't have the false starts and motion penalties, they have a shot and knocking off the Spartans.

At least the forecast is for nice weather.

Well new (old) D coordinator, like 9 new starters, missing their best defensive player, new scheme.....way too many variables to know if it's the scheme or players that's not working

I'm for whichever defensive scheme leads to Dubuque scoring 56 points again this Saturday ;)

Pretty sure the Dutch could have fielded a team of be-headed chickens and had a defense that would've been just as successful  :P

Ya know for opening week of conference ball, this board is hauntingly quiet....Two very big/ potentially telling match-ups this week. (wart vs. simpson & Central vs. DBQ) You could make a case for every possible outcome of these two games...should be exciting to watch. DBQ and central kinda spiraling down, Simpson flying high over a crappy team and wartburg on a roller coaster so far.

Cornell is out of town this week. Any of you Kohawks have a tailgate I can crash?

I think there are still a lot of questions with the teams in our conference that the non-con portion of our schedule failed to answer, which in turn is keeping those on here a bit quiet as they still have no idea how things are going to play out.

Dubuque and Central are both a dissapointing 1-2.  Are they bad teams or did they just run into some strong non-con opponants?  Simpson had 2 good wins and 1 bad loss...just who are the Storm?  Wartburg and Coe seem like the powers in the conference at this point, just don't know for sure.

Do IIAC teams have JV games this year?  I thought I was told UD doesn't have a JV schedule this year and that surprised me.

It would be very unusual if UD didn't have a JV schedule. With the number of players in camp there is really no other way to evaluate younger players than in JV games. Unless so many quit the program that there aren't enough numbers to support a JV team, but that would mean that probaly 60-70+ would have had to quit from the 140 in camp.

I can tell some of the Central fans on here are the type who sees the glass half empty and some see the glass half full and some seem to be type that will top the glass off with pee and try to convince someone from Simpson that it is lemonade.  I think Saturday will be a good game.  It looks to me like Dubuque has a bunch of upper-classmen so they've been playing as good as they are going to get.  Central on the other hand, is younger and getting better every game.  Last week, it looked like they were about nine plays, and four penalties away from a solid road win.  This week they will be much better.  At least that is what I'm going to keep telling myself.

Now that interceptions apparently count as touchdowns, Bret Favre is coming out of retirement.

Ha! That was good  ;D

Heard of one tweet on Tuesday touting Russell Wilson as the first QB to ever throw a game winning interception!

I was officiating a middle school football game last night and I decided to stop by and see a friend on the way home, I was still dressed in full zebra garb.

I threw his door open and yelled I just got back in to town from Seattle and I need a place to lay low for awhile.
