I do believe I saw that Central wrestlers were leading #3 Coe heading into the final match and ended up losing 16-15.  I think Van Kley was a great hire for coach and a fine interim AD.

Yup, came within a heartbeat of beating the #3 team in the country...hopefully while van kley is at the helm, he can influence a few of the other sports teams to a turnaround like he did with the wrestlers.

It looks like Central is facing Augsburg this weekend in wrestling, tough back to back opponents.
Win or lose we still booze!!

I live down the street from the NAIA defending national champion St. Xavier Cougars.  This Saturday William Penn visits for a first round play-off game.  I may go just to boo when the Statesmen take the field.

Being a mid level IIAC team means nearly every opponent is going to be tough  ;)

You're just hoping Billie brings their marching band ;D

I forgot about the marching band.  St. Xavier has a small but spirited marching band.  But I won't go to the game because despite the fact that they have a perfectly adequate troop of live musicians, they still play recorded music including an annoying ditty every time the Cougars score.  I'm told it is what they play when the Black Hawks score a hockey goal  You know the one.  It goes dunt da da dunt da da dunt da da da da da da.

Good luck to Coe today against Elmhurst.  I will be with you in spirit as we celebrate our daughters birthday with roller skating and a whole mess of girls sleeping over at our place tonight.  I will have my phone with me so I can keep up with the score.  All of you at the game, feel free to update as the scoreboard feature on this site doesn't always keep up.

Today I am a Kohawk fan, Go Kohawks!!!

I had planned on going to the game, but this weather has me in the yard & finishing Xmas lights. I think there is  a three hr break planned to watch most of the game!

Coe just went ahead 10-3, it was 3-3 at the end of the 1st.  Would like to see Coe in a blowout making the rest of the conference seem equal to a playoff team.  Well, except UD, who is so clearly already there.   ;)  We all know that except for a fluke play, they would be in 2nd alone.

That's the cherry on top of a very ugly year for IIAC. I guess most of us were blinded by conference pride to see that elmhurst would be a difficult match up for the IIAC champ given the level of play of the conference...here's to hoping next year the conference regains some respect after quite a few bad showings in the playoffs recently.

Not sure what to make of the Coe loss today.  Elmhurst looked much better today than what I saw on the internet against Millikin.  If I use Willie U's logic, and I am not ready to use it yet, about UD and losing to Coe Millikin must be much better than I thought, good enough to have been IIAC champ this year since they lost to Elmhurst in OT.  A 5-5 CCIW team losing to Elmhurst means that the conference was way down this year or something else.  Guess this loss opens more questions than it has answers this year.

I also think the Coe loss is a reflection of just how far down the conference was this year.  Which makes it even sadder that all of the teams were two games back of Coe.  I am with the other Central fans looking forward to a brighter future.  I think this year will give a lot of incentive for the guys to work hard in the off season with weights and just working at getting better.  If we play the same non conference teams next year, it means we need to get better or face more pressure for a non-losing season.  We do lose some quality players to graduation, and I am glad that some of the seniors will be able to come back and play their senior year after missing it to injury.  But we have a very strong nucleus of young players that need to be prepared to step up and show a lot of leadership moving forward.

I know a lot of teams will be thinking the same thing, so I guess we will all have to get better and do better against our non conference opponents.  One thing is certain, with another early exit after the year the IIAC had, if you want to get to the playoffs, you better be the team that wins the conference, because our conference strength perception and reality both took a huge hit this year.

Well maybe if Elmhurst makes a run to the semi fin ah crap never mind.  >:(

When was the last time the iiac won a playoff game? Coe on the road at st johns? Wartburg had a nice run the year before and central had some good ones before that...but after Dbqs embarrassment last year, Coe losing at home first round this year, it's going to be awhile before we see two iiac teams in the Playoffs again.
