I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

The Show

BV over Waldorf - Waldorf is a 1 win team for a reason.
Wartburg over Dubuque - Discipline prevails.
Loras over Luther - Ostey has never lost to Luther as a head coach.
Coe over Cornell - What rivalry?
Central over Simpson - #1 in the IIAC this year and shows why.

I believe the higher seed always hosts. Whitewater hosted all the way through the Stagg Bowl last year as example. Im sure Pat or Kmack will correct me if I am mistaken though.

Correction FYI - Whitewater did not host all the way to the Stagg Bowl last year.  They traveled to Linfield for that epic game, as Linfield was the #1 seed, WW was #2.  But as I understand it, the higher seed usually hosts each game, except possibly in the first round.

Definitely, that completely slipped my mind...and an epic of a game that was...but still as you said the higher seed will usually host.

Wartburg over Dubuque - Discipline prevails.

The Show-

I was doing some research regarding WC, thinking they could possibly be in the unlucky position of traveling to The Perk to be UWW's first first round playoff opponent when I came upon these stats:

If discipline relates to penalties -

WC Penalties:
                                                  WC             Opp
PENALTIES-YARDS...............       54-419       28-199
  Average Per Game............          46.6            22.1

U of Dubuque Penalties:
                                                   UD              Opp
PENALTIES-YARDS...............       69-602       38-330
   Average Per Game............         66.9            36.7

When you work out the math, it's not much difference.  WC is penalized 24.5 yards more per game and UD is penalized 30.2 yards more per game than their opponents.  Of course, UD has nearly 200 more penalty yards per game than WC, but, that could easily be explained that they play a more physical style (not sure, you tell me if that's true).

WC has slightly more than double the penalty yards than that of their opponents.
UD opponents are penalized slightly under 1/2 of the UD total.

Long story short...no difference.

Maybe you will explain to me, with all else equal, why does discipline become the deciding factor in your prediction for this game.  I'm genuinely interested, as I said, I am doing background research on WC as a possible UWW opponent.

I dont think it can be said that Dubuque plays more physical thant Wartburg, but they definitely dont play as smart. The hardest hitting games I ever played in were agains the 'burg. Dubuque was never any fun to play because of all the trash talking they do rather than just playing a hard fought game. Central ran the ball right up DBQ's 4-4 defense and I think thats the key for WB, not discipline. Wartburg better be cheering hard for the old Red and White today...St Johns and Central, if Bethel pulls the upset there wont be a roadtrip to Whitewater next Saturday. Good Luck all.

My late picks for the week:

Luther
BV
Central
Coe

& the important game in the Wave town. I have a very good feeling on this one. The Knights dominate the game more than the scoreboard, but still have a convincing win for the selection comm. I agree with K-Mack that if the Warts win, they should not need any help (but will take it). An OT loss to an undefeated champ is a classic C bid. If the unthinkable would happen up north & Bethel would top SJU, you could make a good argument for the Knights over the Johnnies for a C bid. In that scenario, maybe there is help form other regions & the West gets 9 teams in. We will find out in a few hours.....A related note, hopefully the temp will get over 32 in a hurry to help the grounds crew out. The field & stands have about 4 in of snow on it this a.m. I thought that maybe last night they would have recruited a few students on their way back from Joes to sweep the field.

I just wanted to say good luck to the Rams and everybody else in the IIAC except Coe of course. I really hope that today Dillon has these guys ready to go and we see what it is going to be like for  years to come.
