Was Central's turf under waranty?

Yes, there was some defect in it (something about excess shedding) and it is getting replaced under warranty.

I had a girlfriend like that once  ;D

Is Central's campus located in the country? I noticed a red barn in the background?

Not really. On the ede of town though

All the work it took to win all those national track championships must have worn the color right out the track.  ;D

The plan is to replace the track after the football field is done. I do not know what color, but after 2 tracks have gone from Orange to pink maybe they'll use the other school color.

That turf was looking worn out.  Now, will Wartburg replace their pink track???
The track is reported to be a light "Stone" Gray with Orange accents

They"ll melt all the soles of theirs shoes off, but Wartburg has always been a bunch soulless burger burglars.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

FWIW, Cornell is also putting in new turf.

Joining Central and Wartburg currently replacing turf.  Simpson had new turf for 2012.  BVU had new turf in 2011.  Dubuque put in turf in 2008.  Coe???  Loras???  Luther has grass.

Question...With Carlson stadium sitting next to the river, would Luther be unable to get insurance for a turf field because of flooding?  Or just cheaper in general to go with grass and see no need to follow trends?

Duhawkin

I know Loras needs to replace the turf pretty bad

I think Coes turf is ok for the time being, but yes, Loras needs to upgrade that ASAP. IMHO Luther also needs to catch-up with the trends and scrap their grass.

Carlson didn't flood in 2008.

How does "aged" turf affect play?

What's wrong with grass?

You hippie  ;D

I prefer grass fields, but I realize I'm old and the young folk these days think turf is the way to go.  As long as most schools in the Iowa Conference play their soccer on grass fields I will be happy.  I'm a purist when it comes to soccer.  I want it played on grass and I don't want to see football lines all over the field.

Football is all right on turf, but I would like to see more schools using the same surface UD has.  EcoTurf is more eco friendly, doesn't heat up the playing surface like those with rubber pellets, doesn't produce wrestlers rash like the those with rubber pellets, doesn't leach into the soil like those with rubber pellets, and is 8% more "bouncy" than real grass vs. 40% more bouncy for field turf...which will tire you out faster.  Or so I've been told.  I guess if having turf weren't supposedly a recruiting tool for football I would prefer to still see real grass out there.

I agree, I love grass fields (Bermuda Grass). However, it can have drastic effects on running teams when wet. Yet, it is up to the coaching on how they will adjust to the elements.

Mr. Ypsi

I can't help wondering: since a great majority of (top, at least) colleges are now turf, might being grass be a competitive advantage?

And perhaps a recruiting advantage?  Since most high schools (I assume) are still grass, might there be a fair amount of potential recruits who are 'old school' enough to prefer grass?  Or do the overwhelming majority view grass as 'high school', and turf as 'big time'?

No opinion either way - just wondering.

(Personally, a WELL-maintained grass field is preferable in football (and essential in soccer).  But a 'beat-to-hell' grass field is an abomination in either.)
