Any Central fans get to the "Meet the Coaches" thing at the college today?  Some of you live in Pella don't you?  It sure sounded like Klompen was a townie.  Whatever became of her?  So are they going to, "give 110%," and, "take it one game at a time," and "put the best 11 athletes on the field?"  It has been a long day or I would be able to come up with some better clichés and "coachspeak."  And I am just kidding.  I haven't heard much from Central coaches but when I have, it sounded like they tell it like it is.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Interesting - that was where I went back and forth as well because of Nelson and Vogel but I thought BV may get some love for finishing strong  :)

The Norse need a Dubuque-type recruiting effort for the next few years!  I wonder when was the last season that Simpson got a preseason 1st place vote?  10 years ago?  It feels like the Norse haven't gotten one since about 2005.

Rank   School (1st place votes)   Points   2012 Record
1   Coe (6)       54   10-1, 7-0 IIAC
2   Wartburg       47   6-4, 4-3 IIAC
3   Central (1)   43   5-5, 4-3 IIAC
4   Dubuque       37   5-5, 4-3 IIAC
5   Simpson (1) 36   6-4, 4-3 IIAC
6   Buena Vista  29   4-6, 4-3 IIAC
7   Loras       18   2-8, 1-6 IIAC
8   Luther       16   0-10, 0-7 IIAC

Thats pretty much how I figured the voting would go.

Coe would be the obvious choice for 1st place.

Wartburg/Central could probably be considered interchangable for 2nd/3rd place.

Conference coaches would figure Dubuque returns more than BVU and Simpson...the other 4-3 teams from last season.

Simpson/BVU could also be considered interchangable for 5th/6th...BVU playing @ Simpson probably gives the nod to the Storm.

Loras/Luther are 2 more schools that could be considered interchangable.  Loras has to travel to Luther...but the Norse only return 1 on the O-line and no QB's or RB's and are changing to a triple-option offense.  It will be interesting to see how those 2 schools progress throughout the year.

AEN linked to this article earlier today...http://wcfcourier.com/sports/college/new-luther-fb-coach-has-options-at-quarterback/article_e353427c-0a02-11e3-b4d0-0019bb2963f4.html

Once a coach gets his type of players into the system, the option can cause problems for other teams because they aren't used to practicing against that offense.  I just don't think Hafner has enough of his players in place yet at Luther.  Plus, if you have a diciplined defense, they can render the option impotent, and those offenses rarely have the ability to throw the ball at all once their run game has been shut down.  We shall see, he had fairly good success at William Penn...pretty much the only success that school has ever had on the gridiron.

Dubuque has a D2 transfer QB with starting experiance on the roster.  Not sure if he will be the starter, but he might be an adequate replacement for the Spartans at QB.

And...once again, Dubuque seems to have a D1 transfer DB/Safety that was an Under Armour All-American top 150 recruit.  Hopefully this years version sees the field.  I like to see how these types fair at the D3 level.

They also have 1 kid from my local high school.  I always love to see Iowa kids on the roster at UD.  The local kid gives me another reason to cheer on my school.

Didn't cornell run a similar type offense a while back??? I know they were able to score at times but I don't think it helped them much in the win column?? And Hafner may have trouble getting the kind of kids he was able to get to billie penn. No scholarships will make it hard compared to being practically free to attend billie penn. Not to mention how many of the kids on billie penns roster fit into Luther's academic profile  ???

Got a tour of the Central campus a few days back (been awhile since ive been back, and stopped off while passing through the state). I saw that nearly all speed and agility strength and conditioning records have been broken this spring. Knowing of the speedsters that have donned the red in Coach McMartin's tenure, and knowing those have records have fallen is encouraging. Hopefully that speed translates to the field this fall...surely cant hurt.

Yes, that is encouraging depending on what the records were  ??? and how many were broken by the same few guys  ??? I am not quite sure you can bank on increased success solely because a few guys broke some records when no players from other schools were allowed to compete against them. But, for intrasquad scrimmages, it means a lot.

I only post this because the blurry blue and black thing in the background seems to me be evidence that Pella has been visited by aliens.
