I thought I'd be a man of a very advanced age before I saw the day that Dubuque would beat Wartburg in football.  Hats off to the Spartans though.  I'd agree that Vinny B from UD is the Coach of the Year, and Schuring will probably get the MVP nod.  I'd argue that Central's punter may have been more vital to their success, but it'll be a cold day in Hades before a punter is the IIAC MVP.

I was in Waverly on Sunday and ran into IIAC Commish Cochrane, who was in town for the football coaches meeting.  I'd expect the All-Conference teams to be out in the next couple of days.

Show - Since I'm assuming we're both going to pick Central (correct me if I'm wrong), how about we pick the high school championship games?  Also, I'll likely find out tomorrow if I'm going to be covering the 2A game on Saturday.  If I am going to be on the air, I'll probably email you to get your thoughts on CL-GLR.

Duffman,
Aren't you a Bethel supporter or am I mistaken?

Ouch!  I don't even know how to repsond to that.  I'll bleed red and white till the day I day.  And I can't even think of a circumstance that would make me cheer for Bethel.

Duff,

I think most everyone else either has moved on or is just looking from afar.  Maybe waiting for the all conference picks to come out.  We don't talk as much smack on this board as you do.  There are few jokes as well.  That's why it is good to go to the MIAC board to get some humor now and again.

Ash Park... depending on what time of day you are looking for food, there are several options that would do you well over in Dutch town.  Obviously, if you have a cravings for some of the best pastries you'll ever eat, head to Jaarsma Bakery just off the town square (before 10:00 I think... either way, there's usually a line!)  Dr. Salami's and Smokey Row are the only other 2 places I can vouge for in Pella.  I usually went to Pizza Hut, McD's, or Happy Joe's when I was in town...

All you Dutch fans out there... help me out on the list of places I missed.

Well, I just upped my prediction:  Johnnies by 13.  Put it in the bank.

DutchFans;

GameDay Prediction:  If the Johnnies take time this week to figure out their offense it'll be a fun day for the team from Collegeville.  There are some obvious targets on the offensive side of the ball that produce spills, chills, yards and touchdowns... in fast order!

The Johnnie defense will have an extra spring in their step after being slightly embarresed by the squad from Arden Hills.  On the upside it was probably the most conditioning our boys have had this whole season and certainly will benefit them this weekend.

Based on prior meetings, similar opponents and '06 results it's predictable this game will be close..... don't count on a fieldgoal to be the difference as the Johnnies are as likely to hit one as to have a 100 yard runner.... better to watch the TD totals for a hint at the final result....

If the Johnnie O is hitting, that'll be the difference...

Developing..... ;D

George's Pizza after the game -- fantastic eats.

I have made a careful scientific study of the statistics and decided that, except for learning that SJU only kicked 2 field goals all year, it was useless.  I say Central wins because of what you can't measure.  They have more heart.  Of course if the Johnnies want to lose five or six fumbles like they seem to have the habit of doing, that will be cool too.

Im going to have to disagree with Dusty's prediction of the offense rolling. I know this is a silly comparison but everyone in the IIAC will vouch that Dubuque had some amazing athletes at receiver, Belleus to be one. If for not being a great football TEAM they can flat out fly and they had no luck against the speedy, hard hitting Dutch D. I know Coach DeWaard will have the boys ready to smack heads Saturday and Im going to go and say that the lack of a 100 yard rusher, and a field goal kicker is what does the Johnnies in as the Dutch prevail in a tight one 17-14

:D  Funny.  Two storied programs going head-to-head on Saturday.  You have to know that Central likes to do its talking on the field...especially when you support a program that takes pride in doing the same.

As for smack talk...well...take it for what it's worth.  Hopefully the Dutch can make some post-season noise for what we've all considered an extremely competitive regular season...and do our conference proud.  The IIAC is long overdue for some post-season fortune.  Hopefully, this year will be the year the Flying Dutchmen will continue to make us even more proud.

Most of the people who post in here back Wartburg, and since both SJU and Wartburg lost on Saturday...it sort of changed the playoff picture/tone a little bit around here.

One thing is for sure...the Dutch will give 100% on Saturday, and the rest of us hope that it's enough to come out on top.

IMO, statistics are thrown out the window at this point.  It's time to go berzerker...and make every play count.

GO DUTCH!
