So we don't go too long between posts.

Do IIAC schools have football record books posted online?

Here is the UD one...http://issuu.com/udubuquesports/docs/football/1

If anyone else has their school, post it here so I can take a look.  I think it would be interesting to compare what is an all-time leading rusher at one schools vs. another.

Clearing out the driveway again yesterday ... and thinking about Nick Saban's appearance on ESPN Monday night at the BCS game ... as Saban commented/analyzed play selection, coaching strategy, and even body language of the players ... I began to wonder:

What if D-3 declared an "Assistant Coaches Game Day" where the head coach was forbidden from being on the field or up in the box?  The HC could maybe be the color commentator for the local broadcast/telecast ... but it would be up to the assistant coaches to "run the show" for a day.

Interesting possibilities.

GO SPARTANS!

I would bet that would never happen.  But, I wonder if the conference ever went back to 9 teams and we had 1 team with an off week each week...and we could get KCRG 9.2 to broadcast 1 game each week of conference play, we might get the conference to supply the head coach with the off week do some color work on the broadcast.  That could be fun.

With Grandview and Wm Penn leaving their existing NAIA conference, St. Ambrose is left holding the bag in a weak 5 team conference.  Now is the time I'd like to see them move up to NCAA D3 and become the IIAC's ninth team.  The Bee's would have a natural non-conference rival across the Mississippi River at Augustana in Rock Island. The IIAC could gain an outpost in the Quad Cities metro area and the media outlets (television, radio, and newspaper) that goes with it.  Besides that I could leave the house, pick up a bucket of KFC for tailgating, and make it to the proposed new Fighting Bee's stadium before an episode of Dragnet concludes on Sirrus radio.

You could show up at my sisters house in Bettendorf afterwards.  Tell her to bring you a gin and tonic out on the back deck and don't chince on the gin  ;)

While convenient for you, St Ambrose would also be an easy drive for Coe, and the Dubuque schools.  Add in Morningside for a western Iowa presence and the IIAC would be set.  The NAIA people I talk to all seem to think St. Ambrose is trying to start an all-catholic conference.  When I ask them what schools that all-catholic conference would include they just shrug their shoulders.  We shall see I guess.

Kudos to Wyatt Hanus and the University of Dubuque Spartans.  If my memory serves me right, this is the second year in a row a Spartan has won the award.  Never in my wildest dreams ....\

IIAC football news...

Jake Olsen (Wartburg grad) has moved from UD across town to become the OC for Loras.  He previously coached with Loras HC Steve Helminiak at Rockford and Southern Oregon.

UD replaces Jake Olsen, with Drew Nystrom.  Coach Nystrom was a Grad Assistant at Illinois last season, before that he spent 2011 and 2012 as the O-line coach at UD.

Wow  :o

If Wartburg survives their 1st 6 games, they would have to be feeling pretty good about life and what the playoffs could bring!!!
