It wasn't football, but it was played on a rectangular green field ... with helmets ... and with a ball.  Throw in some sticks and it was lacrosse.  I watched UD play Hope College this afternoon and while the Spartans played like a first year team ... not much defense nor offense ... they did play with spirit and will get better.  Are there any other IIAC teams with a lacrosse program?

GO SPARTANS!

The Brotherhood of Holders and Long Snappers Local 101 has announced a labor action against Central College for requiring its members to block and run on kick fakes without providing premium compensation.  Other crafts, including Amalgamated Linebackers and the Tight Ends' Guild are refusing to cross the picket line canceling spring practice.

Nice to have the indoor practice facility for spring football. Not only when the weather is bad but to prevent snoops from checking out practice  ;D

And it will be nice to use come late november/december for the playoffs  8-)

Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

It appears my beloved Wartburg Knights have wrapped up their 12th straight IIAC all-sports trophy.  Since this has been awarded 12 times it appears the Knights have won them all. (I believe Luther shared it a time or two. )  :D

Wartburg also swept the all-sports trophies for both the men's and women's athletic programs.  ;D

I hope the weather settles down today so the conference baseball tournament goes off as scheduled.

Loras Football Releases 2014 Schedule // http://www.duhawks.com/article/1295.php

With a new coach in place, should be interesting to see how they can adjust in their first year. No one is expecting them to win the IIAC by any means, but I'm sure they'd love to get out of last place.

Pat Coleman

I saw that -- I thought it was odd considering we've had the Loras schedule for a few weeks now. I didn't realize the school hadn't posted it on its own site yet.

It's the "official" release with a preview of some of the opponents on the schedule.

You know it was a long cold winter if it could kill off a chat board.

I am going out of town for a couple of days.  I hope it doesn't take me too long to catch up with all of the witty chit chat on the IIAC board when I get back.  If I was more techy, this is where I would insert the emoticon for sarcasm.

End of June.  Nothing on the board yet.

Q:  how are recruiting efforts going for IIAC ?

Anyone pick up a DII prospect ?  What about prelim numbers ?

I can't help you with who did well recruiting, but if anyone has any hot tips for the Cornhusker or the Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows tonight, I'll take them.

If Wartburg did as well recruiting the other 98 counties in Iowa as they did over here in the bend of the Mississippi, there will be 495 freshman football players reporting in August and 297 of them will be former all-staters.  :D
