KR -- if you hate Iowa so much, why not leave? Were you not accepted at any other medical schools?

I don't hate Iowa, just wasn't as impressed by the hOOters girls here, which doesn't matter much to me since I'm married.

As far as to why I'm in Iowa, it's the closest med school to SJU that I was accepted to. MrsKR (then my fiancee) was still finishing up her undergrad degree up there (technically at St Ben's), so I figured being 5 hours from her was a better idea than 8, 11, 13, 15 or 16 hours.

I actually don't mind living in Iowa too much. I hate living in city limits, but I'd have to do that wherever I went.

Besides, Iowa is where I found this guy last fall:

...and how can I hate a place that gave me the 2nd best trophy of my life?

PS. For any Central fans; what's the best route from Des Moines to Central and how long am I looking at? Thanks!

KR,

You want to take university out East that turns into Highway #163 which is a four lane all the way to Pella.  Once you get to Pleasant Hill it's no more than 45 minutes if you go 65.  If you push it maybe 35 minutes going 70mph.  From Pleasant Hill to Prairie City is 15 miles PC to Monroe is about 12, Monroe to Pella is about 15. Take the first Pella exit then take a left and go into Pella.  The you come to W 3rd Street and take a left and go south till you hit the campus then it's a right to the stadium.  Pretty nice drive.  If you take 80 then you have to take 69 south to come to 163 and then East.  Where are you coming from in Des Moines.

I believe the higher seed always hosts. Whitewater hosted all the way through the Stagg Bowl last year as example. Im sure Pat or Kmack will correct me if I am mistaken though.

Correction FYI - Whitewater did not host all the way to the Stagg Bowl last year.  They traveled to Linfield for that epic game, as Linfield was the #1 seed, WW was #2.  But as I understand it, the higher seed usually hosts each game, except possibly in the first round.

Yeah, BoBo is correct.

The point of the seeds is to determine who hosts. As we know, the seeds can be broken for first round matchups.

When seeds are even in the semis, the highest overall bracket seed hosts. This year it is North 1, West 2, South 3, East 4. This seed is based on the strength of the top seed.

The only case where a higher seed would not host is if its stadium didn't meet requirements and it didn't have a backup (I think that's why Concordia, Wis.'s game is at Wisc. Lutheran) and/or it didn't submit paperwork to host back in Week 6-7.

This has happened to Bridgewater, Wesley and Carthage in the expanded playoffs era. Carthage was because of the stadium, the first two were back in 2000 and were paperwork issues, IIRC.

As far as the Pickems go if you want we can still do them.  I will keep track of them.  You guys say we can do the West or the whole bracket I don't care. What ever the group wants to do.

Df1 Mrs Dutchfan would like to meet you as would I Do you tailgate?

What was the decision on this? Someone PM me, I probably won't be able to keep up with the board.

[ You have to know that Central likes to do its talking on the field...especially when you support a program that takes pride in doing the same.

Yes, but has beens can't do their talking on the field.  That's what "Post Patterns" are for!

If I have that T-shirt made, will you buy it?

As for my West Region Picks:

UW-La Crosse

Not bad for an outsider, eh?

I stuck my neck out for Central this week, and not just on the Dutch pregame show. I said defense and being tested in close games would prove an advantage, but the Johnnies ... sheesh, nice first-round patsy, a team ranked No. 3 in the nation at this time last week.

They have a HOOTERS in Iowa???  I shudder to fathom what the girls look like.  Good thing you go for the FOOD...  :o  :o

Not only do they have a few hooters in Iowa, but the founders both went to Iowa State and I believe they are from Waverly.  Inside of every Hooters, you will find various signs that relate to Iowa, Iowa State University or Waverly, Iowa.

No. If the 1 seed advances out of the South bracket, you travel there. If the same seed out of each bracket advances to the semifinals, that's the only time the bracket's own seed gets taken into consideration.

Good point KK!!!  I was out in San Diego with the Wartburg Choir one year, all decided to go to Hooters (and yes... THIS Hooters puts all others to shame), and I can't even tell you the amount of free things we got when we told them where we were from.  Who would've thought that Waverly, IA would've produced one of the most well-known restaurant chains in the US?

Let's see here... Wartburg grad (Waverly ties), ISU grad (ISU ties)... shouldn't I be entitled to some of that ching?
