I hope you didn't take my advice.  Luther was down 8 and driving on the La Crosse side of the field with 30 seconds to go.  Luther took its last time out and then a Jamesons whiskey commercial came on.  When it was over, so was the game.
No, sorry. I didn't see it until after the game

Rex, thanks for the best laugh I have had in a bit. Good stuff. Time for a shot of Jamesons.  8-)

Reflections from Luther/UWL

  • UWL won - congratulations
  • Both teams ran the A-gap
  • Luther remained competitive despite mistakes
  • Luther's scrimmage was rained out - it showed
  • Luther's QB situation remains unsettled
  • UWL's skill players have talent

Tough way for the IIAC to open the season.  But congrats for scheduling some quality opponents.

Very disappointing opening weekend for the IIAC. Most disappointing had to be Central losing to a team they never should have. Need to find a solution for that kicking game or there will be a couple more losses that shouldn't be this year.

I guess I did both 1 & 3, though I knew early it wasn't going to be a happy outcome for my team.  At least I had the Hawkeyes to feel good about yesterday!

Not a good weekend for the IIAC.  2-7 is nothing to get excited over.  Should be interesting to see how the season plays out.

Seems to me this was a pretty "iffy" weekend for IIAC football.  Surprised that some lost so big and the winners didn't,t walk away.  We played some very good schools however not the patsies of the past.  Perhaps overall we,re getting more courageous as a conference.

Congrats to all for efforts.  .....on to the next set of games.....

Simpson's Acorn lampoons Central's mascot
http://simpsonacorn.com/2015/08/13/new-central-college-mascot-the-fighting-foam-fingers-to-promote-rectal-health/

QuotePella – Central College has a new mascot just in time for the 2015-2016 academic and athletic year. The new mascot, the "Fighting Foam Fingers," went through an accelerated approval process and is already being used for Central College functions.  Prior to this summer, Central College had no plans to change their longtime beloved mascot, the Dutch. However, this all changed when world-renowned proctologist Dr. Ann Us of the Boston University School of Medicine made a substantial donation to the college in memory of her late husband and Central alumnus Dr. Rick Tum.  "This donation really caught us with our pants down," said Central College President Mark Putnam as he tightened the belt on his pair of slacks. "Thankfully, Dr. Ann Us is used to seeing people with dropped drawers."  The enormously large donation, while very much welcomed by the college's administration, came with an unusual string attached. To receive the ludicrous amount of money promised by Dr. Ann Us, the college would have to adopt a mascot that promoted prostate health while also celebrating the study of proctology ...

d-dog ... I just saw your Pick 'em for this week.  I watched the Monmouth - Hope game last Saturday and Monmouth brings a good package to the game on both sides of the ball.  Dutch fans will be wringing their hands at 0-2.  Spartan fans won't be at all surprised to be 0-2.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Dubuque Spartan fans- I was wondering how the QB #16 ended up at your school. I saw some info on the East Carolina websites and the latest info was from the 2011 season. Was he injured and lost his scholarship? Or, was there other issues (I am not looking for personal information) but there is a gap of about 4 years and I'm guessing he is about 24 yrs. old. Did Dubuque recruit him out of H.S.?

SJU had a QB a dozen years ago who played D1 basketball for a couple years, then transferred to SJU and played both FB & BB.

Thanks  :)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Just going off memory, I think he had won the starting job at East Carolina and then was benched and quit out of frustration.  I think he's been out of school for 2 years before coming back this year.  He is from Georgia, which is where Darren Myles was from.  Myles had been a Tennessee player that found his way to Dubuque.  He had good things to say about Dubuque and coaching contacts in the area are beginning to develop a bit of a pipeline to Dubuque.  I think there are 4-5 Georgia kids plus a couple from South Carolina on their current roster.
