If anyone on here claims that back in August they thought Dubuque and Loras would be playing for 1st place in the conference on Oct. 31st ...you're a Damn liar ;)

I thought the only thing they would be playing for was city bragging rights.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Great response by the Wartburg Knight's team, beating Luther 47-7. I know the past week was rough for the team and coaches, and so this was a great way to get the sour taste out from the Dubuque game. I think this is what most expected Wartburg to do this season to a few of the earlier opponents. They came out with focus, intensity, and the offensive line played with physicality. Schrader had his best game of the season in my opinion and was throwing darts to his receivers. Maybe the Dubuque game was just what the Knight's needed to wake up and end the season on a strong note!

The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald with a great article chronicling a week of UD/Loras matchups from Soccer, to volleyball, to football.  Advises you to get off the couch and check out what D3 sports has to offer.

It is frustrating that the Dubuque Telegraph Herald only opens it,s comments if one subscribes to that newspaper.  Comments on the upcoming UD / Loras game are appreciated.  Any brief capitulation Doolittle ?

From the article...

When the two football teams kick off at 1 p.m., it will be the culmination of a week-long Loras versus UD showdown. Dubuque is unique with two NCAA Division III schools competing in the same conference across the athletics' spectrum. On Tuesday, UD hosts Loras in a women's and men's soccer doubleheader. On Wednesday, Loras volleyball invades the Stoltz Sports Center and don't forget Saturday morning at the Dubuque Soccer Complex is the Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships.

Division III is a reminder of all that is good with athletics. It is men and women competing for the sheer joy of competition, who train their minds and bodies year-round to become the best they can be without the incentive of scholarships, big-money TV contracts or product sponsorship opportunities driving their ambition.

It's a great week for Dubuque-area sports fans to get off the couch and out to a sports venue of choice and be a part of the excitement that is a crosstown rivalry.

And...

If you're weary of spending Saturday afternoons in front of the TV being mind-numbed by endless commercial breaks, a visit to Chalmers Field could do you some good. Instead of commercials, the Duhawks' offense plays so fast you can't even check your text messages between plays.

In soccer, UD has upped its game in recent years and is playing right with the nationally acclaimed Duhawks programs. The women's game begins at 5 at Oyen Field with Loras (9-5-2) meeting the Spartans (10-5-1). The men's game follows at 7:30 with both teams coming in at 11-4-1 and conference title implications.

On Wednesday, both volleyball teams are enjoying their best seasons in recent memory and both qualified for the Iowa Conference Tournament. Loras is 20-12, while UD is 15-13 with one if its most prolific hitters in history, Klaudia Basierak, literally winding up her career.

It's been a while since I've posted anything but couldn't resist getting back in the fray for the first Loras/UD game with conference implications in memory.  Honestly I'm just excited because it's great for both institutions and for Dubuque.  I was hoping the weather would be good so half of DBQ would show up but right now it doesn't look great for Sat.  I would guess there still will be a big crowd no matter.  My take on the game is that based on everything so far, it should be fun to watch.  I'm not sure Loras can claim to be the better team but I do believe that situations like this, with a bunch on the line and .8 miles separating the schools, anything can happen.  I've been saying for years that if Loras can have one season where everything bounces right for them, it might lead to better foot-holds in the big Catholic schools of the Chicago area and could quickly make Loras a powerhouse program.   Not saying it will happen, but it could and the new coach seems to be taking steps in the right direction.  I think recruits will be attracted to the system, everyone want to play like Oregon right?  The freshman QB Baumhover could have the best career in Loras history, he's off to a great start.

Well said.  It's nice to see both sides of Dubuque excited for the game.  One side has always seemed to be up when the other was down.  This should be a great, hard hitting game with so much on the line for both teams.

Any tricks to staying logged in ?

Among the 'duration' options is 'forever' (or something to that effect).  I haven't logged in for years except when I'm at a library or using a motel guest computer.
