Spartans Surprisingly Stunned Silent #LorasElite

I can remember the days when it seemed laughable that Dubuque would ever be a contender and now the Spartans have 2 conference titles and the 2nd best conference record over the past 5 seasons.  So...I guess #LorasElite could be a future possibility  ;)

For all the talk about the strong Loras offense last season, in conference only stats they were 3rd in scoring offence and only scored 1 more point than 4th place Central.  Pretty much mid-table stats.  Plus, they put up a paltry 7 points against a motivated Dubuque defense.  Now that the Duhawks won't be catching anyone off guard, maybe their offensive numbers will decline?

And speaking of #LorasElite, reading the Coe, Dubuque, Loras, Luther, and Nebraska Wesleyan twitter accounts you could get to thinking that each of those schools could be Super Bowl champs next year with the hyperbole they throw out there into the twitterverse.  But it makes for some fun reading when I really should be working  ;D

I know Pre-season prognostications don't mean squat ... but Lindy's 2016 college issue has the US Spartans picked at #22 in their Top 25.  Let the trash talk begin.

Do you have a link?  Or do I need to go out and buy me a copy?

Haven't been able to find  a link.   I read it standing in the supermarket.

palum

Do any UD posters know why UD and Platteville didn't schedule each other this year? It seemed like a good regional rivalry game.

doolittledog

Haven't heard anything from UD.  UD and Platteville played in 05-06, 09-10, 12-15.  While it's nice to get an out of conference game so close to save on travel expense, you might want to move around a bit to get your name out there to other recruiting areas.  Kids 20 miles from Dubuque will know about UD.  But if you can get games in Minnesota or out west you are introducing yourself to new recruiting areas.  Maybe throw in a Chicagoland game in the near future to make it easy for that areas UD recruits families to make the game and that might make more sense than playing Platteville 8 times over the past 11 seasons.  And I believe it would have been 9 in 11 seasons but 2011 was the season the WIAC had to play another WIAC team as an out of conference game to save money.

Any news about NWU football?

http://nwusports.com/index.aspx?path=football&

I notice the Prairie Wolves schedule involves an Oct. 1 date with Luther in Decorah and an Oct. 8 date with UD in Dubuque.  That's a lot of bus time in 8+ days.  Maybe they will spend the time between games in northeast Iowa and get in course work that way.

GO SPARTANS!

Perhaps they'll permanently relocate 😀

I wouldn't cry too hard for NWU and their back-to-back weeks traveling to Decorah and Dubuque.  Their 1st 4 games of the season are at home, and those are their 1st road trips of the year.

Perhaps they could relocate to Fayette and replace ...nah, nobody wants to be from Fayette  ;D

Alumni presale going on now...Friday night concert...hmm, I wonder if we could spend two nights in Dubuque (sans children) this year?  My guess is one or more of them will have some sort activity going on one or both nights  :-\

Any other big name no shows from around the IIAC this fall?

Wow, you have some inside info. Of course, being an IIAC-Lifer, you would know things going on throughout the conference  :)  Rio Johnson still shows on the UD roster, and he was at the UD basketball game I was at in February.  If he isn't back this fall, Conor Feckley got one start last year on the road against Coe and picked up the win.  He would be a capable replacement.
