UD looks like a strong contender once again.

Are there any cross conference scrimmages this week?  Always interesting to see who chooses who for a preseason test.

Anyone else a little shocked by the ranking of some IIAC teams in Kickoff '16? Central & Coe @ #'s 104 & 84? Central will have some opportunity to improve that ranking drastically in the first couple of games, but still.

Don't know about scrimmages. Wartburg used to always scrimmage UW-Platteville, but they just reported for camp on Aug 20 (Week 1 byes are terrible). They'll barely be in pads by the time UW-Platteville will be looking to scrimmage this year.

I miss the old days, when there were quite a few Central posters on here.  They might be able to answer some questions I have.

Dubuque brought in 2 Central transfers.  One is a senior that got 7 starts on the O-line last season for the Dutch.  The other is a sophomore DB that saw action in 5 games last season as a freshman.  Just a case of 2 guys moving on to a better fit? Or is there trouble brewing in Pella?

I also miss all the Wartburg posters.  There would have been quite the conversation of how they could make tailgating work at NWU with no alcohol allowed on campus  ;D

Either way, I'm anxious for play to get underway so we can start to see how things will shake out this year.

We wet  >:(

I just saw a picture of the Luther baseball field (the outfield) under water.  Didn't look too far away from Carlson Stadium.

Is that field still grass? Played there in '09 when everything between the hashes was mud past the ankles.

Wartburg is scrimmaging P'ville in Waverly Saturday after only 6 practices. The other option was NO scrimmage this season.

I will follow DD lead for the Knight's roster:

19 Seniors
28 Juniors
32 Sophs
61 Frosh

111 IA
11  IL
8  MN
5  MO
2  WI
1  AL TX & Unknown

I didn't ck prior yrs for comparison, but maybe Hansenratings has some thoughts as he is not that far removed.

Eight from MN is way more than we had when I was there. I'm a MN guy, and I think the most we ever had on the roster at once from '08-'11 was 3. I didn't have a coach visit my HS (even though it's only 90 min from Waverly) during recruiting; I found Wartburg because my brother played baseball there.

5 from MO is almost entirely thanks to Coach Roach. We only had one MO kid while I played, and he had familial ties to Wartburg, I think. Roach is from MO, and still has some pretty strong ties in the area thanks to his time at NW Missouri State. I think he spends a week down there while he's out recruiting. Missouri in general seems to me like it's a bit of an untapped market in terms of DIII talent, so getting a foothold down there could help replace some of the talent from IA that has been going NAIA or JUCO in recent years.

In the same train of thought about MO DIII recruiting: I had an interview at BVU for their DB coaching position a couple years ago, and it struck me how few players they had from Nebraska. Over half of their players were from Des Moines & East of I-35. Maybe adding NWU to the conference could help them recruit Omaha (only 3 hours away), with the pitch of "We'll play 2 games in your home state."

Was just back on Central's campus and met with some staff who are optimistic about the present and future.  Didn't know anything about the transfers, but I've been told that the current crop of seniors are the best group of people/players/leaders that have been around Central in a while, so hopefully that bodes well for the future.  Pretty rough way to start the year with 2 strong non-conference games, so we will see right away how good the Dutch are.  I do miss the glory days of my playing years when we'd hang 40, 50, 60, and even 70 (thanks William Penn) on teams and giving up 13 points a game was a bad day for our defense.  Time marches on and it would be nice to see Central (or any Iowa Conference team) be relevant on the national scene again!  Go Dutch!

Admittedly I don't know the city that well so it took me two visits to find a bar.  Those of us from Wisconsin are unaccustomed to that extensive of a search.
