Ulysses III

Im going to go out on a limb here and say that Cornell could contend for a national title this year, making one of the greatest program turnarounds in NCAA history.

Noticing some of our conferences basketball results against the likes of Mt. Mercy, Dordt and others.  What are your opinions of the NAIA schools from our state.

I had in the past thought of NAIA as somewhat inferior to Div. III but looking up info on the NAIA I see they can offer scholarships.  Is the NAIA in your opinions somewhat like Div. II...at least the Northern Sun Conference version where they offer $500 scholarships but other than that they aren't much different than Div. III?

Or are they in your eyes equal to Div. III?  Or do you see them as weaker than Div. III?  I thought I remembered when William Penn left the IIAC they said one of their reasons for leaving was the NAIA was cheaper to belong to.  That was also why Morningside left Div. II for NAIA.  What makes them cheaper to be in?

Also, there had been some talk on here about having a weekend during football season where all IIAC teams played MIAC teams.  What if we did that and also had a weekend where all IIAC teams played NAIA teams from our state.  I think I counted with Dordt adding football for 2008 there would be 9 NAIA schools in Iowa by then.

DutchFan2004

The MIAC idea may have some legs and be a good idea.  The NAIA however is not a good one in my opinion.  That may hurt the IIAC's chances of getting a second team in the playoffs as the game with the NAIA would not be counted as a D3 game and then hurt some of the playoff criteria.  Playing teams in state may be a good idea but I don't think Coe, Central, and Wartburg would benifit in any way from doing that.  I don't follow d3 basketball so that may be an idea to have an Iowa NAIA/IIAC shootout.

How about that game last night?  I thought after last year's NC game when VY ran and passed all over USC I didn't think I'd see a game like that in a while.  Turns out it only took 365 days.

Big reason to love IIAC football more than the big time--

Did anyone else notice the crap that USC receiver pulled during his long touchdown reception? Or perhaps when he tossed the ball into the lap of a defender. When was the last time you saw that consistently in an IIAC game?

Walston Hoover

Wartburg's Reciever's coach WInter used to pull that crap all the time when he was breaking records at Wartburg and leading the IIAC. One of the cockiest guys I've ever been around.  ;)

That Boise St. - Oklahoma game had me jumping off the couch in excitement during those last few minutes.  That is what I love about college football.  I didn't see the USC - Michigan game but heard someone on the radio saying the way the reciever was behaving made it look like he was saying "hello" to the pro's.  That is what I don't like about college football.

Hey lorbec...how is the construction going on Dubuque's new stadium/rec center?  When will Dubuque put up a webcam for us?

I thought there were 3 plays Jarrett could have been flagged, but I said the same thing after the first TD- NFL here I come.

Any thoughts/feelings about Danny Mac as a possibility for the Golphers?

Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Exshcushe me shir, but If I killed all the golphers they's lock me up and throw away the key.
No chance of Danny Mac to the goophers.
They would be crazy to get rid of a coach that made consistent bowl games for one that has finished last in the big 12 2 of the last 4 years.

Walston,

From the WIAC board the Knight's don't need a new AD.  That has to be somewhat expected doesn't it?   A home town boy coming back to take over the program.

I saw the speculation a couple days ago that WW found their guy. It may be selfish for us, but I'm very glad Coach Willis will stay at Wartburg. His quote in the wcfcourier was that their are only a few D3 jobs better than what he had at Wartburg and the position at Whitewater was one of them.
Hopefully the application to UWW doesn't mean that he is searching actively for a coaching position, although it is a shame that one of the duties of one of the best young defensive minds in the game of football is scheduling girls soccer officials.

At first glance, I thought you were doing a Lou Holtz impersonation!  However, Carl Spackler could more than likely do just as good of a job as a college football analyst...

2007 predictions:

Loras is mediocre with Coach O.  Buena Vista is mediocre without Coach O.  Apparently Coach O's influence is insignificant.

Cornell remains a doormat and this keeps Dubuque from returning to last place. (Can you say, "Flash in the pan"?)

Simpson continues slip sliding away.

Coe will be looking for a new head coach before the season starts.

"Luther will be better."  "Luther will be a contender."  "Luther is on the brink of greatness."  -  No they are not.

Central and Wartburg will be the top two teams at season's end.  Both will make the playoffs.  Both will advance to the second round.
