Well, if he graduated from (and then taught at) Augie, he's probably a football fan (still the only school ever to win FOUR consecutive Stagg Bowls).

Though I suppose it might depend on timing: lately they've become very 'MEH' in football, but a national power in basketball. ;)

New Helmets for the Beavers?

Will they do an Oregon and have different helmet/jersey/pants combos for every game?!?!

News today that will make Fannasaurus Rex happy.  While taking our oldest daughter on her 1st college visit.  There is a conference school that will be bringing back a marching band within the next 2 years!

Of the 3 other college visits planned, 1 is to another IIAC school, with another 1 to an NAIA school in our state.  So maybe I can get some interesting stories from these other two visits.

You are correct.  There can't be enough marching bands to suit me.  I have enjoyed Central's drum line at the last two homecomings where I had the chance to see them in action.  They put on about as good a parade and show as a dozen percussionists can.  I was hoping that more sections would follow by now.  Seems like The Dutch ought to be able to find a couple of glockenspiel players.

As a fan I hate bye weeks. When you are the team missing out on the first conference weekend or the last one it is even worse. They are nice for letting banged up guys heal a bit of giving you an extra week to plan for a big next game.  What do you think? Do you like the bye week or think it is a good thing?

Yawn - what are we a month from the Masters and still got 3 ft drifts in my lawn?  Not a fan of Bye weeks, although if they do come at the right time for some injury recovery they can work out.  Everybody has to put up with them so I guess we deal with it.  My biggest problem is their so boring without the Dutch on the field   ;D  I see we do have a couple of good games on the bye, Simpson/DBQ and Wartburg Lutheran Bowl.  I am a fan of 6 home games for the Dutch,  They Get Warty and Spartans at home.  But the final three go Simpson Wartburg/Coe for a tough final 3 weeks.  Hope McMartin is working on the depth chart.
Go Dutch  Now, back to hibernating.

As a fan a bye week isn't optimal.  But it isn't often that both Dubuque and the Hawkeyes have bye weeks the same weekend, so I am usually good.

As a coach, a bye week can be useful in getting injured players healed, plus another week to game plan for a team.  I suppose if a coach has a team really firing on all cylinders they don't want to see their bye week come up because it could hurt their chemistry.  But I would guess most coaches welcome a bye week.

Especially if it is the week before facing your arch-rival! ;D  Otherwise, I'd expect coaches most welcome a bye week roughly two-thirds of the way thru, to heal from the accumulated dings and minor injuries that are inevitable by then.
