I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Has Buena Vista historically been a bad football program? They remind me of Briar Cliff. Neither seem to win.

Charter member of the conference, only 4 conference titles with the last one in 1978.  Have been down the past 5 years or so, but traditionally were that team that was always around .500.  Made the good teams work for it, but never could get over the hump.

Will they play tomorrow?  That is what I initially heard.

What's with all of the night games tomorrow?

Mrs. Doolittle expresses her appreciation for the night games. Not only do I have time to mow the entire yard today, but there will be all sorts of other honey-do list items I can check off.

Change the kitty litter
Take out trash
Organize the garage
Change furnace filters
Agree with Mrs Doolittle we should paint the dining room walls
Agree with Mrs Doolittle it would be a bad idea for me to paint those walls and we should get quotes from professionals

So ... was she happy with all you accomplished today ?

I mowed...and that's about it  ;D

Final scores...

Dubuque 37-26 over Pacific.  Dubuque goes 6-0 in their series with Pacific.  Will play Marietta next year.
Loras 42-14 over Benedictine.  Impressive
BVU 27-24 over Concordia NE.  BVU was down 24-0 at the half.  Score in the last minute for the dramatic win.

Coe/Cornell cancelled/postponed

Wartburg/Monmouth in a weather delay

Thank you, doolittledog! Just saw on the news that Briar Cliff defeated Dakota Wesleyan, 47-0. I know Central used to be a really good program!

Outside the Crate

Wartburg looked good against a Monmouth team picked to repeat as conference champions in the south, 38-7.  Two quarterbacks split the assignment, and both looked good.  JoJo McNair was everywhere, playing both sides of the ball.  He may turn out to be the conference's MVP.

It appeared to be a very successful day for the American Rivers Conference, too.  For Wartburg, it's off to Luther!  In other news, I think Central ought to be ranked.  The ARC doesn't get the respect it deserves in football, in my view.

IMO, (65 yr old Iowa guy), the ARC hasn't consistently shown in the playoffs that their champion can play with the other top leagues.  Wartburg's run to the quarterfinals a couple seasons ago was an anomaly over the past 20 or so seasons.  I just think there is too many schools playing football in Iowa compared to the 1990's

As an NAIA guy, I think Grand View, Morningside and D2 Upper Iowa have taken some recruits who would normally be in the ARC.  When you're filling rosters with 100 kids, it doesn't take much to lose out on 4 or 5 difference makers but still think you're ok.  Even Dordt took several players out of Pella that could play in the ARC; Levi Jungling for one.

Hard to judge Monmouth, played Wheaton and lost by 38-0 and then trounced by Warty.  Central's opponents haven't been much, but I'd agree Central should be rated.  Lets just see if DIII will put Wartburg and Central tied for #25 and leave them there until November 9.  Things are looking tight in the ARC, but barring injury and big egos leading to loses, that should be the game of the year.  Dubuque, Loras, Simpson, Coe might have something to say about that.  Ought to be fun!  Go Dutch

I think Morningside has always been around to poach Iowa kids.  In the last 10 or so years we've seen Grand View step in and start picking up kids that would have been on ARC rosters in the past.  Ditto for UIU.  The Peacocks going D2 has them bringing in kids that almost always would have shown up on ARC rosters in the past.  In the last 3-4 years, Dordt has stepped up their recruiting game as well.  Plus, the ARC was always a 3 headed monster in the past.  3 good teams, 3 decent teams, 3 poor teams.  Last year there were 5 teams that had a decent shot at the conference title and even the 4 teams below that made any team work for a win.

I think those schools, coupled with the conference talent pool being spread out more than in the past, and you have the recipe for ARC teams not making deep playoff runs.
