Did anyone get to see the BVU Marching Blue Saturday?  I sure would enjoy a review.

I forgot it is the 21st Century.  A frequent problem of mine.  I just watched the half time show on YouTube.  I rate it "SPECTACULAR!" But then I am a sucker for live performances, capes, hats with feathers in them, and women twirling things.

I just watched the clip.  I think 18 band members, 2 drum majors, 6 flags, 1 baton twirler.  Not a bad start.  I'm used to seeing the hats with feathers, the capes were a nice touch  ;)  I hope BVU can grow the band.  Helps with game day atmosphere, and helps a bit with enrollment figures.

When I took our oldest daughter on a campus visit to UD last spring I was told they had the funding and were working on bringing back the marching band.  We are going back for a 2nd visit in October, I'll attempt to find out more on that visit.  Though that tour is supposed to focus on the nursing major she is interested in, and not a general visit showing off all their departments like our last visit.

Central always used to get a lot of outstanding players from Pella High and that is something that is not happening anymore. I don't know why that is, but it has certainly changed and Pella had some tremendous players that could have made a difference for Central. I am guessing Central will regularly lose out to Dordt on most Pella Christian players even with Kac as the coach at Pella Christian. Central was a great college for both Kac and his wife, but maybe the way he left Central left a bad taste for the school that was so supportive of them. More likely though it is the fact that Pella Christian has always been and will always be a huge feeder school for Dordt. I would love to know what happened to Pella High recruits though.

How would a program like Central in Division III matchup with a program like Dordt in NAIA?

Speaking of which, I live about four blocks from NAIA St Xavier U which is hosting UW Whitewater tomorrow.  I may have to go check it out since this is Central's bye week.  The last SXU game I went to was about ten years ago.  They had a marching band so I might give them another chance.

Whitewater had a home/away series with Morningside in '15/'16 after Lance Leipold left for Buffalo. Whitewater won both meetings. Thoughts on the outcome of Whitewater/St Xavier?

Dubuque has a WR transfer from St Xavier...just thought I'd throw that in there  ;D

Whitewater/Morningside was good matchup.  Similarly ranked in each of their divisions and fairly evenly matched on the field.  Whitewater took both wins.  Central and Northwestern had a series from 1970-1983 when both schools had strong programs in each of their divisions.  Central went 5-8-1 in that series.

Our plan was to take the kids to the Field of Dreams site tomorrow afternoon and then make the UD/Simpson game at 6pm.  With thunderstorms predicted...I am guessing we stay at home and I watch on TV.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Outside the Crate

Wartburg over the Norse 62-10.  It's the largest margin of victory by either team in the 76 times the teams have met.
Wartburg played four quarterbacks, so it's not like Coach Willis was piling on.  In the fourth quarter he played sophomores.  It was family weekend at Luther, but I think Wartburg had more fans.  The rain held off, too.

Dubuque with 190 yards of offense at halftime. Zero points to show for it.
Simpson leads 14-0 at the break.

I think it could be a great match up. My loyalty says Central wins, but they have some truly outstanding Pella players on their team that I wish had gone to Central. They are key players that took Pella high to 3 straight state championships.

Simpson beats Dubuque 21-14. Dubuque was 1-4 in the red zone.
