Impressive win over the burger burglars for the Dutch. Congrats!!!

Go Kohawks next weekend

Good luck to Loras next weekend too!!!  :o

Anyone want to figure out what happens if Coe, Loras, and Dubuque win next weekend?

Oh! I have the answer! Schipper Strong will cry! :'(

I was very remiss in not giving Hunter Robinson a shout out for his crucial catch of a low pass and stretch into the end zone for the game winning points. I was tired and the adrenaline has worn off.

I would also say well done to the normally quiet Central crowd for making some noise today.

Today was a huge win, savor it tonight guys. You all did your job whether it was on the field or on the scout team of just getting loud on the sidelines. Every game since Dubuque has been a required win to extend the season. Tomorrow if is time to put this in the rearview mirror and focus on Coe. Win that and the automatic bid is yours. You can write the ending to this season's story, make it a good one.

I believe if Central, Coe, Dubuque, and Wartburg all went 6-2 in conference play, You look at the head-to-head. Central and Coe would be 1-2 in those games and would be eliminated. Dubuque and Wartburg would be 2-1 but Wartburg won the head-to-head matchup with Dubuque so the Knights would get the playoff bid.

I would still be happy for Dubuque to get a share of the title after starting the year in an 0-2 hole in conference play.

Old Dutch

Wow, a classic game that had a little bit of everything in it.  Score at will offense, followed by a huge comeback, blocked kick for a score, goal line stand inside 1 yard, trick plays all over the field, then OT and a 2 pt pat winner.  When you get 2 very good teams putting it all on the field its just a great experience.

Just look at the differentials in the box score:
1st Downs  Central +1
Rushing yds . Central +11
rush att. Central +13
Passing yds .  Central +25
Pass att.  Wart +3
Pass completions Wart +5
Plays . Central. +10
YPP  Wart +.4
Penalties  8 each
TOP Central +24 seconds

It was just the TO's that made the comeback: Takeaways Wart 3 picks, 1 blocked kick, that made the comeback possible.  I think we all could see that happening, even if we didn't want to admit that.

Congrats to both teams, but specifically to Hawkins he will go down as Central's best QB for a long time.  Now to get our focus on the Kohawks and finish this, been a long time between championships guys!  Go Dutch!

Not sure this shows anything conclusive, but here are a series of still pics of the 2 point play for those interested...

Great game by 2 great teams who both deserve a shot in the playoffs IMHO.

Great teams create turnovers and Wartburg did a better job of that then Central did, though Egli's interception in the end zone was just as huge as their blocked punt for a TD.

As to the 2 point conversion, it was close and the official on the field made the call. I am one of the dinosaurs that isn't on Facebook, so I could not see the last 8 pictures without logging in. It looked to me like he made it in, but that was what I wanted to see. The teams were very evenly matched with Central dominating the first half and Wartburg the second half. Looking at the scores by quarter shows very evenly matched teams as did the stats. I agree, both teams are playoff worthy. I just hope Central focuses on Coe and takes care of business next week. A chance to avenge last year's other loss when Hawkins was injured. Dubuque, we will be ready to play you next year!

Warthog, I hope you were watching, it was a doozy!

I felt like I watched the same game twice yesterday.  The ISU @ Oklahoma game was almost like watching a replay of Wartburg @ Central.  Anyone out there that is a fan of both Wartburg and ISU has to feel awful today.  This game can really give you the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

Wartburg will score and likely a lot. But if we are playing offensively like last Saturday and keep mixing things up I believe we can out score you at the end of the game.
That was a little too accurate for comfort!

As Perry Como sang ... "Dream along with me."  I may have picked Central to beat the Warts, but I will never imagine a loss to the Dutch at Chalmers Field.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Dutch/Dubuque trivia.

Dubuque went 5-5 against Central this decade.

3-1 in Dubuque, 2-4 in Pella.

While the 2 schools are 3-3 over the past 6 years.  Dubuque has won 2 of the last 3 in Dubuque AND 2 of the last 3 in Pella! That doesn't make sense at first glance, but because of the schedule flip the games in '16 and '17 were both in Pella.

Payback will come, but Coe gets it first.

I feel for BV. I remember how it felt last year when Central was the team that finished the season early.

Outside the Crate

As a hardcore Wartburg football fan, I'm normally deeply depressed after a loss -- but not after last week's Central game.  Call me a fool, but coming back from a 42-14 half-time score to tie the game at 49,felt like something of a moral victory.  Few teams could pull that off.  That showed some character.  So, I was okay on the drive home.

Then I heard that some photos suggested that the final play might have been improperly called.  (So, what?)  Unfortunately, while I know the photographer, she felt she had to be "neutral" and take down the photos, which she did.  I didn't see them, but it doesn't make any difference anyway.  (But, I'd sure be curious to see them, 'cause, like Schipper Strong, I'd surely see what I want to see!

All things considered, it's been a good fall for Wartburg athletics:  volleyball won the regular season title, women's soccer won the ARC tournament title, men's and women's cross country teams won their ARC titles, women's golf finished second, and football has a good chance to three-peat if they beat Loras this weekend.
