I wanted to go watch the video of the game, but it is password protected. What's up with that? Are we trying to make sure Wheaton doesn't get any extra video to watch?

NCAA games are not allowed to be archived. Now, not all schools know or understand that, but that is the rule.

That seems a bizarre (and fan unfriendly) rule.  Any insight on the reasoning behind it?

Nice job this weekend to Central and Wartburg, way to rep!

It was exciting to see Central really step up their game in the second half. That has typically been the half where other teams stepped up against us. The coaches and players all stepped up to the challenge.  Hopefully that will show the defense what they are capable of as they will need to step up again on Saturday against an excellent Wheaton team.

ARC/CENTRAL fans,

Help me out.I am looking at Centrals' stats and results. I see an offense that consistently generated 500+ a game, 30-50 pts, and a QB in Blaine Hawkins who completes 67% of his passes over his career and averages close to 300 yds a game throwing. Yet October 12th Central lost a stinker to Dubuque while scoring only 7 pts, generating 223 yds of offense and Hawkins was 9-23 with 5 interceptions (almost half his season total). What in the world happened that day?

If Dubuque hadn't mucked up their first conference game against Simpson, there would have been 3 teams at 7-1 at the top of the conference standings.  Dubuque was no push over this year.  Dubuque game planned for Hawkins.  Took away his check downs and had the DB's to cover his primary receivers.  It worked well.  Central then turned Hawkins loose to run as well as pass after that game.  Or at least that is what I was told.  I didn't watch their games.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

I agree that UD looked really good that day.  The other thing that amazes me is how "streaky," Central can be, hot one half and cold the next.  Taking nothing away from UD, Central was cold on offense that whole game.

A well prepared Dubuque team came to town. It was a really windy day and we were throwing a lot of sideline routes that got held up by the wind just waiting to be picked off. Dubuque was passing downfield routes that were not as affected by the wind and found their targets. It is a game that Central should have won (in the minds of everyone on the home side), but we were not the better team on that day. Look for Central to seek payback next year. Throw out that game's stats and Hawkin's numbers would look unreal. It was a humbling day for the Dutch. It was a game that could really play with your head and makes what the team has done since then more impressive.

I agree completely. This isn't DI, what is the harm in letting parents and fans watch the games again later?

Pat Coleman

It is a blanket rule from Turner Sports, which owns the rights to these games by the contract with the NCAA. And I do think it's a rule we don't need here in D-III. (And in truth, I haven't ever heard of any enforcement.)

Usee, in addition to what others have said about Dubuque, I posted the following comments after the UWW game with them:
Props to Dubuque as I feel they had pretty darn good defensive backs.
the Dubuque QB is a gamer with a nice touch.

I'm not surprised they could pop up and bite a a good team.

Thanks Pat. You are the ultimate resource. Nice to hear it hasn't been enforced yet, but would be nice if allowances were in place for DIII. As a fan, it is fun to rewatch games you attended to catch the commentary or check out other conference games that were exciting that you didn't see.

I'd say, though, if I were a team still playing, I'd probably lock them down, too. Even though next week's opponent will get that game automatically, Chapman or St. John's could put someone on breaking down Central right now.

And on the flip side, any savvy video coordinator is already recording those games live and doesn't even need the archive.

And that pretty much covers all the bases.  😂

Dubuque absolutely was a contender this year.  I recall that very windy day as a thorn in Hawkins psyche,  Early on he had a wide open receiver on a corner route that he overthrew by 10 yards.  They had a big receiver/DB, I think Jenkins?  He caught whatever was out there including a couple Dutch passes.  However the point spread on this day was largely affected by a terrible punting game in the cross wind . At least three times two different punters shanked kicks hard right and gave Dubuque short fields.  That was also a turning point in the season for Dutch RB Hopp, as after that game they not only turned Hawkins loose they focused far more on the run game, especially Hopp.  Go Dutch!

Congratulations to all of the players named to all conference teams this season. Special congratulations to Blaine Hawkins, the league offensive MVP and to the Central Coaching staff for Coach of the Year awards. There were a number of other Dutch p!where cited, but  congratulations also to Jon Alberts on his selection for first team honors for the 3rd year in a row. We are really going to miss you next year! Guess we better just keep the season going with another win on Saturday. Go Dutch!

Schipper Strong

Just read the one-time write-up on Central's website. The Dutch have a big challenge ahead of them this week. Wheaton will be the best team we have played yet. The Dutch are well versed in challenging games this year, so they just need to go out and play their best and enjoy the experience. Good luck to both Central and Wartburg on Saturday.

Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving and remember we all have a lot to be thankful for.
