25 Saturdays until ARC football returns...maybe.

So with the spring sports season cancelled, does that also include spring football practice?  If so, could the NCAA allow a longer preseason practice schedule?

Since we really have no news this time of year other than schedule releases, maybe a position coach change or two, and kids announcing on twitter they are committing to a school and then we have to wait until the fall to see if they actually show up to that school, I found myself looking up school endowments.  I use Nacubo stats first, schools not listed on there I just did a simple google search, after that any remaining schools I looked up on college raptor.

Grinnell - ...2,069,953,000
U Iowa  - ...1,578,933,000
Iowa St - ...1,101,709,000
Drake - ..........226,155,000
St Ambrose - 170,073,000
Luther - .........168,780,000
Dubuque - .....160,530,000
Buena Vista - 136,568,000
UNI - ..............129,019,000
Central - ..........79,161,000
Simpson - ........78,610,000
Coe - .................77,900,000
Cornell - ...........76,288,000
Wartburg - .......69,000,000
Morningside - ..46,271,000
Northwestern - 44,170,000
Loras - ..............41,584,000
Graceland - .....37,200,000
Dordt - .............35,700,000
Clarke - ............29,340,000
Grand View - ...25,734,000
Mt Mercy - .......23,600,000
IA Wesleyan - .17,218,000
Upper Iowa - ..17,174,000
Briar Cliff - ......12,600,000
Maharishi U - ...7,987,000
William Penn - .7,640,000
Faith Baptist - ..4,144,960
Emmaus Bible - 1,043,960

With the exception of St Ambrose ranking high, and Loras/Iowa Wesleyan ranking low, you see the D3 schools with larger endowments than the NAIA schools.  Not really sure the reasons behind that.  Also, Mt Mercy (where my oldest child will be next fall) seems to be the only non-bible school (Maharishi, Faith Baptist, Emmaus) to lack a football team.  Waldorf, a for-profit school is the only 4 year school I left off the list...or at least the only one I "think" I left off the list.
This may need some updating.

I see that Pat is already on top of it, but for those that are here I will note that Loras football schedule is up. They open with St. Norbert at home and have UW-Eau Claire on the road.

I completed the on-line census for my household this morning.  When I went outside I saw my neighbor and told him I was enumerated. He said, "shouldn't you be quarrantined?"

There's a Simpson joke in there   ;)

It is a little disturbing that someone who, as far as I know, has never laid eyes on me, knows me so well.

Any guesses out there about the upcoming season and the odds?

A - there will be fall camp and the season

B - there will be no fall camp but there will be a season

C - there will be no fall camp or season

D - that headline I saw where some AD's want a compacted July/August schedule and take the fall off?

Quote"I'll be shocked if we have NFL football this fall, if we have college football. I'll be so surprised if that happens," he said, via TMZ. "Just because from what I understand, people that I listen to, you're 12 to 18 months from a (coronavirus) vaccine. I don't know how you let these guys go into locker rooms and let stadiums be filled up and how you can play ball. I just don't know how you can do it with the optics of it."

I mean, I think that's a fair assessment. Especially with how lax the response is in some states where college football is big.

I read on the Iowa board today in 1918 the state of Iowa went into quarantine, with masks required in public after their 2nd game.  The rest of the season was played to closed gates with limited spectators. Usually soldiers and family members.  2 games that were cancelled or postponed were replaced with games against Coe and Cornell.  Curious if something like that could be put in place this year.

I saw pictures today from NYC.  Not a place where college football is big and parks were packed with people.  Most were wearing masks so maybe they thought they were protected.  For how strong the virus has hit there I was stunned so many were out and about around town.

I was really looking forward to Central softball this spring, we were #8 in the polls when the season was cancelled.  I don't quite know what to think about football season, but I fear that it may be cancelled as well because they think Covid-19 could be making a second round in the fall and there is still no vaccine.  The world as we knew it has sure changed, the time frame is the big unknown.  The thought of no senior season of softball for the Central ladies that were rated so high is so disappointing, really for any player in any sport though.  I was so looking forward to Blaine Hawkins' senior season and what the Dutch football team could accomplish this year.  I can only imagine how all athletes are feeling.  What about high school seniors who might choose a 4 year school partially because of sports, how many might switch to a community college or state university if they aren't going to get to play sports anyway and have to take classes online.

One thing is certain, when this does end, and it will, we will all appreciate EVERYTHING so much more than we did in the past.

I am surprised at how many people do not take this seriously.  I am also surprised that every state has not issued a stay-at-home order.  The Feds imply that they have issues a national order, but people aren't following it, particularly where the states have not mandated it.  Seeing what is happening in the hot spots makes me wonder how they will justify themselves if the worst happens.  What happened to the idea of erring on the side of caution and learning from other's lack of knowledge?  I work in a hospital and hope the wave does not hit us, given that we are rural, but I am not going to bet my life on it.

Isn't Iowa one of the states that didn't order a Stay at Home order?

Yes, and the reasoning is we are in a virtual stay at home order already with out the actual order.  Work or essential shopping is about all anyone is doing right now.  At least that is how people around my area are handling it.

When my wife checked our life360 app our son hadn't left our house since March 13th.  Our oldest daughter had left for work and grocery shopping twice.  My wife has only left for grocery shopping.  Our younger daughter twice walked a nature trail that no one else was on.  I've only left for work in that time.

The few times I've stopped for gas I paid at the pump and did not go inside.  It looked like most people were doing the same while I was there.  We basically are in stay at home mode right now.

I wonder if we might see things this fall like we did in 1918.  University of Iowa finished off their season in front of a closed stadium.  Only family members and soldiers were allowed into the stadium and people wore masks.  2 games that were cancelled were replaced with games against Coe and Cornell...don't think that part would happen today  ;D

That's how my parents and NW Iowa friends/family are handling it too. There's actually a neighborhood that posts on Instagram their "Daily Workout" ... all the neighbors do it from their lawns together. It's pretty funny.

The NYC/East Coast media is going a bit apoplectic over Iowa not issuing the order. But I think there's a lack clarity on how it's actually being handled in Iowa. I think they are imagining everyone going on about their lives as usual (and proceeding to call the Governor and Iowans dumb - their literal language), when in reality it sounds like it's not much different from how things are operating elsewhere. I suspected as much, but only had the small NW Iowa sample size.
