My counts may have been off on returning 5th year seniors. 15 was what I counted on the roster. KNIA-KRLS reports 18 5th year seniors. Maybe there were 3 that didn't use all 4 years of eligibility. I don't know. I noticed big senior class listings for those that gave a breakdown on here, but not a distinction on 4th or 5th year. How are the other schools doing with that?

Dubuque has 17 "regular" seniors, and 9 "5th year" seniors on their roster.  I'm curious how many of the sophomores and juniors on these rosters across the conference will eventually take a 5th year as it's my understanding they will also be granted a 5th year if they so choose to take it.  I'm also curious how many of the 5th years are now in graduate school vs. how many are taking a bare minimum of easy classes.

Good morning,

I'll probably be getting the West fan poll up and running again this year. With that being said, send me a message if you're interested in participating. Most likely I'll need few more fans to fill out the 10 spots we have.

Send me a message if you're interested, we'll be happy to have yeah.

West Fan Poll

Thanks!

Central wins easily.
Simpson called at half for 59 point rule. Oops, Simpson wishes there was a 50 point rule.

End of the 1st quarter. Dubuque 28-0 over Marietta.

Attention Fannosaurus Rex - My daughter tells me UD plans to start a marching band. For this year they are starting a drum line class and will build it from there.

Central 27-7 at the half. Blade Durbala and Hunter Maddy  not playing today on defense for Dutch. Central doing really well against the run as usual. Oles  have a great punter, he really makes a huge difference on field position changes. Central found a punter this year thank goodness! Logan Mont having a great day on offense. Hawkins getting him the ball early and often. Jason Hopp with outstanding runs. Central with 380 some yards of offense in the first half. Oh and there is that little matter of lining up for a FG and scoring a TD. So perfectly played nobody knows if it was intentional or not. Love watching Durbala tearing it up on the sidelines!

Congratulations to the Oles for outplaying the Dutch in the second half. Felt fairly satisfied with the first half of Central game, dissatisfying second half. Logan Mont injured and that may have added to the flat feeling of the second half. Game never in doubt, but still a ho hum second half where they outplayed us. Durbala showed more fire on the sidelines than any Central player in the game the second half. I think this is part of the problem with not playing stronger competition. Then again Oles had some things to be happy with. Their punter continued to give a nice advantage to the team. They are a running team, but need to take advantage of an accurate QB who kept the game very respectable.

Final
Loras 14
St. Norbert 21

Loras moved the ball pretty well all day but had too many plays for loss. Loras put together one very long nice drive for a TD. The second score was a short field after SNC muffed a punt at its own 15.

SNC had an early lead. Then got a 95 yard Kickoff return for a TD to tie it at 14, right after the Duhawk short-field TD that was the huge play.

SNC got one final drive to take the lead. And then forced a fumble on what was Loras' last chance.

I haven't looked at the stats but guessing Loras outgained SNC. The Loras QB was a lot to handle.

A good win to start the season for the Green Knights.

Most times you score 58 points you win. WOW!
I knew Simpson would wish for a 50 point rule.

Not that I wanted Central to embarrass anyone with 80+ points, but I did want them to dominate. I have high hopes for Central and to me that meant being able to bench all starters early and let the subs get a lot of reps. We couldn't do that nearly as soon as I thought. Are my expectations too high? Are the Oles suddenly better?

Great news.  Central has had a drum line for awhile.  They are entertaining and contribute to the game day atmosphere but it doesn't seem to be growing into a band like I hoped.
